US thrashes England 5-1

VICTORIA, B.C. (Saturday, August 17, 2002) - The U.S. Under-19 Women's National Team defeated England, 5-1, today at Centennial Stadium in Victoria, British Columbia, in the opening match of the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship, Canada '02. The U.S. offense was lead by the high-scoring trio of Kelly Wilson, Heather O'Reilly and Lindsay Tarpley, who each scored at least one goal and tallied at least one assist. Wilson scored twice and O'Reilly assisted on three goals. Leslie Osborne also scored for the U.S. in the win.

big game against australia today.

both teams won by 5-1 margins in their first games, so they are even up. although some might say that the u.s. played against the better team. i myself have no idea how good chinese taipei are.

Canada beat Chinese Taipei 9-1 and 11-0 in their two warm up games. My guess is that the US won't have too much trouble with the land down under.
