Another injury crisis goes on:
Besides Wiese and Jensen, Pizarro and Diego are out.
Mertesacker still out, because of the joke ban.
I am interested to see what team Schaaf will
field and how we will do without so many important players.
Squad:
Vander,Mielitz, Boenisch, Pasanen, Naldo, Tosic, Baumann, Vranjes, Fritz, Rosenberg, Özil, Hunt, Prödl, Husejinovic, Sanogo, Frings, Almeida.

We have a solid reputation of playing great games without couple of our top players(remember Real game) so maybe this will be just the same. A wake up call from our bench players which will now have the chance of proving themself. I'm thinking of Vranjes, why not Husejinovic, and Pasanen who i think has come to the moment for a great game (to many unispiring games lately for him).

Its gameday, in fact its gametime...and the Bundesliga ticker is down :(. If you are on-line right now help a guy out, let me in on the action, maybe a half-time report or something. It sure is sucky living in the football boonies. Is Vander in net today? Quick feet and nimble he reminds me of Barthez. A good back-up let's see if he wins this one for the Green and White. I expect the midfield to play tougher today, close down much more agressively and put some passes together (preferrably forward); the Panathonaikos game was embarrassing in this respect. Just some thoughts after 10 odd games: deal Sanogo away (what have you done for us lately?); sign a crazy defencive midfielder with big legs and bigger shoulders (ala Tim Borowski) when the window opens because the effort so far smacks of weakness; also give Hunt and Vranjes more playing time...today for instance! I like what the last two have given the team although I understand with the quality of midfielders that Bremen has it is difficult to play them; I argue that that positive play should earn some game starts - not the opposite as in Sanogo's case. Later alligators :D.

Okay!!! The ticker is up and the line up makes me happy :D:D:D! Now can they pull it off with 10 minutes left? Wishing Armenia can score a goal right now too...here comes Booboo, better net it now. Well that's over, I hope y'all carry on a discussion afterwards, I would like your insight as I can only grasp so much from the ticker. For instance how is Frank Baumann in the defence today? Later, on Tuesday they will have the German cup match (Leverkusen?) on television Live. Look forward to it and the buzz afterwards when Werder puts the hammer to them.

Pardon that would be a league match . It's prime-time TV for Equilibrium and me on GOLTV...all that and the bottle of Becks. Enjoy! I found a recipe for making Becks at home and tried it out. I labelled it Schmecks but it was far from it!!
One of us needs to find a way to export the green icons from the Werder.de Forum so we can knock glasses and wave banners...it's kinda' fun! http://forum.werder.de/images/smilies/smilie_gruenweiss.gifHEY IT WORKS!! http://forum.werder.de/images/smilies/21.gif

If you lose on saturday, you will be out of title race 100%. Teams are much stronger than past seasons, it's impressing and making me happier. I have a feeling Bundesliga teams will finally stop embarrassing themselves in Europe. If you lose your next game, it's going to be quite a feat to qualify for Europe imo, there is a lot more competition.

Currently the team looks tired, we have many injury and also bad luck.
Short: a crisis.
But better times will come. There´s a lot of unused quality in our team
and it´s a question of time, that we will step up, kick some a$$ and roll
up the league.
Hopefully a short time. :o
To the match:
Bayer stand very compact and we hadn´t real good chances
(Bayer on the other hand also not up to minute 60). Then a typical
mistake happened, the Bayer winger had too much space, Pasanen
wasn´t at his opponent, Vander injured Merte while bounching (or touching) the ball to Vidal - goal.
Rosenberg with a class chance, but Adler with a class save,
minutes later the 0-2.
2nd goal was another against goal after a setup piece,
that mustn´t happen.

This is just sad what they play since the Bayern and Hoffenheim game.

1st goal, it was completely the goalkeeper's fault and no one elses. That's why Mert was rightfully pissed off. 2nd goal, your players were crap in terms of positioning. Look at replays, all Bremen players bar 2 were on the left-middle side of the post while there were 3 Leverkusen players on the right side of the post, thus being outnumbered. Terrible marking and defense from a set play which caused the 2nd.

Nah, that was a chain of mistakes, the right winger had too much space,
the opponent of Pasanen had too much space and Vanders mistake as you said.
2nd goal, your players were crap in terms of positioning. Look at replays, all Bremen players bar 2 were on the left-middle side of the post while there were 3 Leverkusen players on the right side of the post, thus being outnumbered. Exactly and that happens at many setup pieces as a match goes on,
the team starts well, but during matches they let the opponents
too much space, positionate wrong and then these things happen.
Don´t know if this is a physical or mental problem.
Besides the mistakes i am also very dissapointed of certain players,
especially the midfielders. Frings is a shadow of his former self and
hyped players like Özil or Hunt were bad-pass kings. Özil corners
and freekicks were district league class btw.
I already got very angry after the Gladbach and Stuttgart matches,
but our key players seem like sitting back on former glory and not want
to test themselves in the present. And our young players (we have the 4th youngest squad in league) seem to be happy to play at Werder
and don´t understand, that they have to perform if they want to reach something here.
I already made a "send a player in the desert" list,
i hope the club management also looks carefully,
who performs and who doesn´t.

1st goal was not in danger at all, Mertsacker had it completely covered in every angle. Your idiot goalkeeper literally punched right before Mert was about to clear. You could see Mertsacker was pissed since he started screaming, he then turned to the keeper and raised his hands in frustration, basically meaning "Wtf are you doing idiot?". Other players made mistakes, but there was no danger at all. The keeper was not aware of his sorroundings, thus why he is an average/crap keeper and why the goal happened.

I Appreciate this discussion, clearly the concern is there and I am not alone that personel and will are at the heart of this downturn in fortune. When called upon leaders are not stepping up or injured (Naldo, Diego [with reservations], Wiese, Frings). Replacements have been somewhat improved (Beonisch, Vander, Proedl, Vranjes) but not to the degree of winning matches. Some real problems with the play Fritz, Sonogo and Pasanen :(; but, there have been some excellent examples (IMO) of spirit and talent in Baumann, Pizarro and Rosie :).
I know it is a large brush to paint with in this way, because what one player does on the field relates directly to another and not every game exemplifies the point; but in general terms (why we are in 8th in the table and falling) could be the play of the few frustrating others with the will to win.
Given time I can only hope communication on the pitch improves, that attractive forward thinking style reaps dividends and returns the team to their former selves.
I agree that Mr. Schaaf will sooner than later become a target but who shall his replacement be? Who is available? I don't know is a thread on this topic already opened? Later - Winni.
