I think we should have 1 team in the Champions League (Lyon of course) and 2 UEFA Cup spots because clubs from our country are poor , IMO most divison 2 teams in the big leagues could cause trouble to some of our big clubs it's pathetic .

Marseille losing to PSV is horrible , OM wasn't even in the game at any point .

Bordeaux fluked a win against a romanian side , Lyon let in so many goals against a average side . Lyon is our only pride yet they also look pathetic .

I disagree. France gets the right allocation for this tournament right now.
I'm actually not pissed about the result but optimistic. Save for Landreau and a few others, we played the kids in this match and it is what it is. They've got to start playing at some point and although I'd prefer a different time there's alot of good we can draw from this match by playing the kids. Apparently, the focus is on the league for PSG with the goal of winning it an getting into Champion's League next year. I'm kool with that goal and like our chances of achieving it if we can continue to get winning results. Compared to last year at this time, PSG is definitely headed in the right direction seeing how the players seem to truly pull for one another and are scrapping for wins.

I dont want any European spots taken away regardless of weather we deserve them or not. Its not just France who are struggling , its pretty much every team from a "weaker" league. Only England and Spain are the ones flourishing now. PSG lost to the 3rd place German team and PSG only got into Europe because of the Cup we have to remember that. It wasnt a fair match on paper.

Well sooner or later we'll just have 1 spot , we're not performing in Europe for how many seasons now? In both champions league and UEFA cup , while Romania is catching , so is Russia .

Unless a miracle happens and a french team progresses further than the 1/4's (in Lyon's case) , and the other two french teams progress beyond the group stage then we won't get caught , but now again it already looks like we'll be losing two teams in the group stages .

Bordeaux have a decent chance of advancing because Roma have been un impressive so far. That group is very tight and will go down to the end. Even if they finish 3rd they have a good chance of going far in the UEFA Cup. As for PSG, I think if they had the money to bring in Dechamps then they would buut since they dont PLG stays.

Can you really see Bordeaux winning in Rome ? Winning vs Chelsea ?

I wouldn't even be suprised if Cluj beat Bordeaux in the return game in Romania .

Winning in Rome yeah because Roma are playing like crap. I wouldnt bet on it but they are definately capable. On paper Roma are better than Bordeaux but not all games are played on paper.

There are a lot of times when I feel pessimistic just like you do but there are also days like today where I feel more positive. I dont know how I will be feeling on that matchday.:)

Our teams haven't given me any confidence at all to be positive , the only good showing was Marseille vs Liverpool and Bordeaux vs Roma 1st half , and they both still lost . Other than that it's been total crap .

I hope they suprise me but I'm not expecting it .

What a disgrace...

If some French clubs don't want to play the UEFA cup just let your spot to another like Saint-Etienne or Nancy who consider that competition with respect and seriousness...

I'm giving PSG a pass because they were almost relegated last year so they clearly arent ready to be playing in Europe right now so thats why I dont have a problem with the way they're approaching it. Any team that finishes out of the top half of the league and gets in Europe via winning a cup really cant be expected to do much in Europe.

this is stupid, fight so much to get into european competition only to put 2nd rated team. why bother qualifying if not gonna put your full heart into it.

the day french club spot get taken away thats when they will learn to play fiercely, we losing to everyone not just big teams

this is no longer a question of having no quality players or money, we simply suck.

I don't think it's an issue of putting forth all you have as much as trying to be economical. We've got a few injuries - Sakho just came back and Giuly is sitll out and when you look at the lack of depth we have, the argument for not fielding the A side for this match has legs. There are 4-5 matches left in our group play and the next one is next month in Paris? If we win next month then PLG comes off looking like a Genius but unlike previous seasons, if don't make it out of the group phase, I won't be too upset as long as we're doing well in Ligue 1 and on track for a Champion's League spot. We've got the big match Sunday and I'd love to see us win it.

what's the problem?
we have to play Marseille sunday, with 24h less recuperations, and then play Toulouse on wednesday with 24h less preparation than them as well.
The club's main goal is the league. We don't have the bench to play every competition to the fullest, and when you add it all up, I personally couldn't care less about the game against Schalke, I prefer winning the game in Marseille and if possible cut OM short.
From the start I had given up on the game in Germany. We don't need it. All we need is 6 points, two victories at the Parc. Right now with injuries and a bad schedule, this game simply was the least of our priorities.
Besides, our reserves didn't do that bad, sure it's 3-1, but they showed some good things, and Schalke actually wasn't as dangerous as I expected them to be.

If you want to complain, how about the fact that the UEFA cup isn't worth anything.
I bet all of you would be the first to whine when PSG, due to injuries (like the poor Arnaud, really nasty fall), or exhaustion, were to fail short by the middle of next week.

If we consider it all, PSG would have played 5 games in 15 day (and I think 7 in 20). I prefer staying focused on the league.

btw, at one point our fans almost brought down the stadium, that's how loud they were

I understand that PSG's league position is important, hence Le Guen putting a reserve team, but I'm also thinking about France's UEFA coefficients, which is in danger of falling behind Romania and Russia. If that happens, France will lose a CL and possibly a UEFA Cup spot as well. Right now, Lyon are carrying France pretty much on their own, but from next season, the high points from Monaco's and Marseille's appearance in the finals will no longer be considered, so France has got to do well in Europe this year.

UEFA ranks both the CL and the UEFA Cup equally, and as things stand, France have a better chance of getting further in the UEFA Cup than in the CL, and of all the squads, PSG had the best one to make a decent run at that trophy.

Le Guen doesn't care about France's UEFA coefficients as he probably shouldnt since he's just a manager. Frederic Thirez is the one who needs to be worried and concered even though he said not to panic when the season started. Its all on his head whatever does happen.
