Whitecaps appear set to add more hi-tech megabucks to their MLS ownership group in the form of Steve Luzco, chairman of Seagate Technology.
Seagate is the world's largest manufacturer of hard drives.
Luzco is part of an ownership group that owns a third of the Boston Celtics, and is also involved in an auto racing team with the Penske family.
Luzco, who is also a Vancouver native, appears to have been a buddy of Kerfoot's from back in the day. Kerfoot's business software company, "Crystal Decisions" used to be a division of Seagate.

Vancouver apparently has NBA-Yahoo-Seagate-Crystal Decisions money coming out of the yin-yang.

All Vancouver needs now is for that waterfront stadium deal to be finalized, and MLS will have absolutely no excuses for passing the Whitecaps up in 2011. That's one strong investment group and fanbase there.

Just wondering,
With the Whitecaps Ownership group and the money backing the team, what do you think the chances are of Kerfoots group caving to the VFPA and paying the extra 35 million they are demanding for the land swap? I still believe more concrete final plans regarding the waterfront stadium will be required for Whitecaps to get in for 2011.

Hard to say. I've always been of the opinion that this hold-up with the Port has never been about money, it's been about control of the rail yards. Kerfoot has the control, and the Port wants it.
It's the only argument that makes sense. By law, the Port is prohibited from selling land... it can only trade for it. So when dollar values are removed from the equation, it makes no sense for the Port to be refusing a trade where they get a 3 to 1 return on square footage.
It looks even more daft when you consider that the land Kerfoot wants is basically a water-lined helipad and a parking lot, and the area he's offering for trade is land-based and usable.

JoMo I agree 100%.
Part of me thinks that the fact of the matter is that Kerfoot is not a slime bag sleazeball politico or crown corp/fed comp or land jakey.
I feel like He is a smart businessman who has given back over and over and over times 8 and continues to get the shaft because, just an opinion or theory, someone's not getting greased.
The municipal govt should be ashamed of themselves for their self promotion and taking the Caps up on photo op after ceremony etc, and they go to the Media etc yet never ever have they dug their heels in.
Same goes for the Feds and the Provincial Govt for not stepping in the Champion the cause.
Same can be said for Larry Campbell. He just ups and picks the sexy controversy every month to get his mug on the TV ffs. He was a "Champion" for the Whitecaps stadium for a whole month, and then faded away, and I'm sure he'll pop up as soon as something else comes up that he can get back in the media over, and let's not forget he was the man that intially invited Kerfoot and Co. to build on the False Creek Flats in the first freaking place.
