A bit late, but the Arsenal Reserves lost to Watford 2-0 last Monday.

Simek started and played the full 90. Karbassiyoon was the only sub not to make it off the bench besides back-up keeper Holloway.

Also of note, 16 year old Cesc also started and played the full 90.

this are the kids the refuse to workout with the U20, and know they seat on the bench for most of the time.

Translation: Aren't these two the pair that refused to fly over for workouts with the national under-20 team? Now they spend most of their club time on the bench.

I'd guess.

Although, to be fair - it looks like Simek did play.

It wasn't their decision to stay:

Simek and Whitbread are young professionals with English clubs Arsenal and Liverpool respectively. While both have indicated a desire to play for the U.S. team (Simek has been capped and Whitbread played in a tournament with the team at Valencia, Spain in August), Rongen explained that English Premiership clubs in general are digging in their heels over releasing players for this event.

“The Premiership managers apparently have looked at this tournament and decided it doesn’t make any sense for them to let their players go at this particularly time,” Rongen said. “The FA Cup is starting up, it’s a time the clubs play a lot of games, and they don’t want to release, not only first team players, but reserve team players who might be needed to cover for the first team, and maybe a U19 player like Frank who plays some matches with the reserve team.
