Joseba with a hat trick in 17 minutes for Villareal.

Lyon's game was a turnaround, goals from Fred and Benzema getting them back in it.

Surely that 17min hattrick has to be one of the fastest in European history.

I can't remember the last Champions Legaue matchday with this many goals. Even in some of the other matches, particularly the Bayern-Fiorentina one, the score doesn't reflect the match - it should have been many more goals. That's a good sign, hoping this competition rejuvenates itself.

It's actually a record for 1 night in the CL, BBC confirmed it.

Well the jig is probably up for Celtic - with Villareal's result today, they are going to be longshots at getting out of this group. They should at least secure 3rd, and try for another UEFA Cup run.

Actually tonight ties the record from 2000.

Lugano and Roberto Carlos ensured that Arsenal's defensive frailities remain a sidenote from tonight.
