Ola,
Read that D. Ortega has taken the decision to retire from the game due to his legal situation.http://www.ole.clarin.com/diariod/jsp/oled/engine.jsp?pag_id=655518
I've always liked Ortega....I recognize some of the limitations in his game, but he always brought a smile to my face watching him play on his good day. I always felt he was putting together a great WC 1998 until his explosive nature got the best of him.
Any thoughts on his pre-mature retirement from the game?

El "Burrito" anunció su decisión después de enterarse de que la FIFA no levantará la sanción por incumplimiento de contrato con el Fenerbahce. "Me retiraron", se quejó.
So is it the end??? I for one think we have not seen the last of el Burrito.

Indeed, in this day and age, 29 is too soon to retire for a non-injury prone footballer.
The question is what are his options? If he goes back to Turkey and plays out his contract is that sufficient? He obviously can't ignore FIFA's decision, neither can any team hoping to use his talents. Has he saved enough to retire financially?

El burrito esta caliente y en este caso creo que tiene razon. Pero esta hablando con calentura, no creo que se retire. Mi prediccion es que el ano que viene va a ser otra vez gallina. Los de River serian muy boludos si no lo convencen, considerando que es tan dificil mantener jugadores con talento en el pais.
Edit: Sorry, I should say it in English, since some of the posters are speaking English.
I think Burrito is pissed off and I think in this case he is right. But he is talking without thinking and I don't think he will retire. My prediction is that next year he will be a chicken (river) again. It would be dumb for River not to try to bring him back, especially considering that it is so difficult to keep talented players in Argentina.

El Burrito Ortega has been a hot head and always will be a hot head. Although a great talent he always let's his emotions get the better of him. He got himself in this mess by walking out on his team when he had a contract with them. If he had done things more calmly perhaps he could have arranged a transfer somewhere else or negotiated a termination of his contract (like Rivaldo did at Barcelona) but instead he simply walked out on his Turkish club.
The best thing about Ortega's retirement is now Bielsa can't pick him for the national team anymore!

Los dirigentes del Fenerbahce de Turquía viajarán a Buenos Aires para ofrecerle a Ariel Ortega que regrese por cuatro meses al club y, tras el pago de una indemnización, quedarse con el pase en su poder.
Los directivos del club turco piensan pedirle al delantero argentino que juegue cuatro meses en el equipo, para luego quedarse con el pase tras el pago de una indemnización que de todas maneras sería menor a los 11 millones reclamados en principio.
El Burrito había anunciado a principios de este mes que abandonaba la práctica del fútbol, "cansado" de los problemas contractuales con el Fenerbahce y después de que la FIFA confirmase que debía pagar para poder jugar.
Luego del Mundial 2002, Ortega se sumó al Fenerbahce, que pagó cinco millones de dólares a River por su transferencia, pero el jugador estuvo algunos meses en Turquía, no se adaptó y decidió regresar a la Argentina, por lo que se generó el conflicto vigente.
Los dirigentes turcos reclamaron, algo que la FIFA apoyó, pese a que Ortega había apelado ante la Corte Arbitral del Deporte.
Ahora los turcos parecen querer llegar a una posible solución con el jugador, aunque para que esto prospere, el Burrito deberá cambiar su postura y decidir volver a jugar al fútbol.

Según la prensa brasileña el Burrito fue ofrecido y los dirigentes lo rechazaron. "No tenemos interés en un caso tan complicado", dijo el dirigente Marco Cunha.

A kind of manager of Ortega in Brazil, offered him to Sao Paulo.
In Brazil, the justice doesn´t allow anything to stop a person who wants to work. So they say that if Ortega came to Sao Paulo, he could be suported by the brazilian laws and he could play.
The thing is: FIFA usually punish those clubs who tries to solve their problems in the common justice, and Sao Paulo don´t want to take that risk.
But it would be a good thing for both, SP and Ortega... (although he´s so long time not playing).

Good riddance to El Burrito Ortega. He got himself in this mess. I'm just glad he's not playing so Bielsa won't feel any temptation to select him!

Los dirigentes de Núñez y los de Newell's llegaron ayer a un acuerdo por el pase. River pagaría 3 millones de euros y el Burrito jugaría la Copa. Hoy arreglarán la forma de pago.

Los dirigentes repitieron la costumbre de dar casi por hecho un pase que no se hizo. Mientras tanto, el Burrito no sabe qué hará con su futuro.
