the well respected owner of Dundee Utd FC died in the early hours of yesterday morning after a long battle against prostate cancer.

Dundee United's SPL game against Rangers on Saturday has been postponed as a mark of respect for the late United chairman.

What a great chairman and more importantly person Eddie Thompson was. Great to hear about such a great response from supporters all over Scotland remembering Eddie Thompson.

Dundee United have reduced the ticket prices for Saturday's match against St Mirren to give fans the opportunity to pay tribute to Eddie Thompson.

The club chairman died last week following a battle with cancer and the Thompson family requested that ticket prices be set at £5 for all spectators.

A minute's silence will also be held prior to kick-off.

Chief executive Stephen Thompson said: "A minute's silence is the most appropriate way to mark the occasion."

Thompson's funeral service will take place at 1300 GMT on Wednesday 22 October at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Broughty Ferry.
