But most Japanese hate Koreans and vice versa. That was one of the supposed benefits of co-hosting the tournament.

This hasn't smoothed things over. Korea is still angry with Japan over WW2. The main issues is the "Comfort Women" issue and Japanese school texts which sanitize it's wartime roll.

Goes a bit deeper than that Doyle as Japan has, at various times, occupied Korea dating back several centuries. One of the interesting things about visiting most of the Korean heritage sites is that they were all built in the 70s as replica's of the original...and the signs always tell us exactly when, and how often, the Japanese burned them (the original's) down. There is a well of animosiy in Korea that goes much deeper than merely this century.

Japan only gained a foothold in Korea from the late 1800's. Before that, it was considered a Chinese province.

DoyleG, you have no clue.
Japan invaded Korea in the 1590s.

That was an invasion. Not an occupation.

Well you better tell the Korean's Doyle, because all of their museums are wrong.

Just curious, but whatever happened to Centennial Stadium in Victoria, BC, host of the 1994 Commonwealth Games? The Voyageurs' website lists it as seating 5K. I find it hard to believe that capacity was that small for the 1994 games. Could this be made into a serviceable Canadian WC venue? What other non-CFL Canadian cities have halfway decent stadiums? Is there anything in say: Saskatoon, Thunder Bay, Windsor, London (Ontario), St. John's, Halifax, Quebec City or Sherbrooke?

The capacity of Centennial Stadium was increased through the use of bleachers.

Halifax and Quebec City both want a shot at the CFL, so a stadium could crop up in that instance. Halifax is also front runner for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
