ok before i go...
quote:
Your pictures are gone so I can't comment on them. If your sarcasm is directed at me, then I wonder why your answer only faintly relates to what I actually said. (I'll leave out my comment on DSF now which doesn't seem to be the problem.)
First, I was actually making a good case for not lumping together all Frankfurt supporters that were in Mannheim. It's not in order that some media give the impression as if "the Eintracht supporters" misbehaved. That's a most unfair generalisation – which is why I spoke of "a small bunch of morons" instead.
Second, feel free to post a fervent speech in defence of traditional fan culture whenever you like, but I just don't see what this has got to do with my comment. I'm not condemning anti-Hoffenheim chants in general, there are "anti-chants" for every club in the league, and I don't see why anyone should make an exception for Hoffenheim. I'm just expecting a minimum of decency. To assume that everyone who distances himself from a certain type of slander can't possibly be a "real" fan is ridiculous.
Third, in every stadium you will find a wide spectrum of different sorts of supporters, from the truly devoted to the wannbes. Question: Are those fans who concentrate some (or even much) of their energy on decrying other people necessarily the most devoted and the loudest?
----------
first, fair enough...But what exactly makes them morons? you don't know anything about those people i'm afraid.
second...Get used it, because Ultras all over Europe will be against Hoffenheim when they find how this team came about....I can go on about this but it really won't mean anything. The point is Ultras are against modern football, they sing and make displays about it (they're the first ones to stand up for a fans right)
example here is a display the boys made with our friends in Aachen 3 weeks ago.

I'm afraid with these people, they will never forget about Hopp's connection with modern football so get used to it.
if you don't like it, stop crying about proper manners over a forum and get to the stadium and explain to those people why it's not right...
third...for the most part, YES.

Well, that the club was founded in 1899 is undisputed of course. And if their football section was founded later or not is irrelevant as well (Bochum surely didn't play football in 1848 either). But the funny thing is that, after more than 100 years, they suddenly insist of being called 1899 because it makes them sound like they are a real club. It's a marketing move and the propaganda rags like kicker naturally go along with it.
Exactly.
Hoffenheim may well have existed as some sort of aerobics club or whatever since 1899. But it's only two years ago that they put that in their name and started banging on about it wherever they could.
So it's not as if they've always been known as 1899 Hoffenheim, they simply just ALTERED their club name in order to SEEM like they have tradition and to silence critics (not that there have been many within the media).
It is, as Alex said, nothing more than a marketing ploy. Just another piece in the puzzle of manufacturing this club.
Also, I got irritated today when I was reading The Guardian and they had a piece on Hoffenheim - talking about the village's tiny population, that training is next to a cowshed, that interviews are in a little metal box, blah blah blah... all seemingly in an attempt to paint a picture of a true Cinderella story where the classic underdog has made it big.
And I recognise that Hopp can spend his money on whatever he likes and that the team has played very good football this season, but articles like that piss me off because, when it comes to being an underdog, Hoffenheim is nothing of the sort! It is just a club that was reinvented by a really rich owner and have, with the help of lots more cash than any other side in lower leagues, and now much more cash than most sides in the top league, been able to make it through the tiers of German football. As any club with money on trees could.

My comment was to point out that the two situations are comparable. I didn't call you a f#cking racist.
Thats why I said "basically".
And no, its not comparable. I ask you again: How is hating someone for their skincolor the same as hating someone who is (among others) destroying something you love?!
Totally Agree @ Vfbstuttgartfan. I think we have a similar view on this case.

Don't kid your Alex - its entertainment and its a business, corruption is everywhere - even US soccer.
But US soccer is honest about being entertainment and business. I can respect that. I don't like it, but I can respect it. Football in Germany has become a branch of the entertainment industry as well, so why don't stop with all this BS about pretending to be anything else?

Because Hoffenheim isn't "destroying" anything.
That's just your view because they're getting ahead in a DIFFERENT way you aren't accustomed to and don't think is fair.
Therefore you rail against them.
Besides our difference of opinion, did I get something wrong there??

Man Kyle, you've really drank the "Ultras" Kool-Aid, haven't you?
Wait until you get over here and get to know some "Ultras"
You might take a different view.

that's part of entertainment as well. They know they have haters out there, but if they market the fact that they are an "old club", it might lessen the negative feelings towards them.

They are destroying the football that I love!!!
I know they are not the only ones. I know they didnt invent commercialisation. I know that plenty of things are wrong at my very own club as well...
But the concept Hoffenheim is another great step towards a new football, a football that I dont like. I think I have stated clear enough why that is so and that it has nothing to do with them being "different" or performing well.
For doing that, I hate them.
And that is in no way the same as hating someone for their skincolor!!
Now how about you start actually reading (and maybe answering) some of the great points people have brought up here instead of allways coming with the same "youre just jealous" or "youre just affraid because they are different"....

Because I don't have time for your bullshit. They are "great points" because you agree with them. I've said what I have to say and I've said it all more than once.
We aren't going to get anywhere, so I'm not going to waste my time repeating myself. I have better f#cking things to do.

I'm talking about football in general, although Hoffenheim is an especially silly example of course. Right now we're in a slow and painful transformation.

Im affraid thats what youve been doing for the last dozen of pages tough...
Most of us stated that we respect Hoffenheim for their style of play, and that everything that Hopp does is legal and his right to do. That doesnt mean we have to like it. I for my part dont, and I as well as others gave plenty of reasons why that is so.
To all of these reasons your answer was "youre just jealous" / "you just dont like that they are different" / "Get off their asses"....

Hannover's Enke will miss us, major blow for them. I know for sure, that we will leave the city with 3 points.
That's exactly the same arrogant attitude you share with many SAP "fans"...
Just for this reason I hope that you'll get screwed by 96!

Which is why if you look for most of those "last dozen pages", you don't see that much from me.
I just started posting here regularly here again a couple of days ago.
As far as my responses, I gave my reasons why I believe what I said.
But since you seem to need confirmation for yourself, I said them again and again because the same response was correct again and again.
You didn't say shit differently, so why should I have to?
You can keep on with this, or we can agree to disagree and move the f#ck on.
I was tired of this long ago.

Then what are you doing still posting here?! :D
I need confirmation? Whatever?! What I do (still) need is for you to explain to me the following:
a) How the name "1899" that has been added two years ago is not artificial.
b) How many players of the price categorie of Carlos Eduardo or Chinedu Obesi Dortmund has bought within the last 5 years. Or any other club expcept for the top-6.
c) How, since Hoffenheim has easily bought those players, they are still not spending big money in your oppinion.
d) How Hoffenheim can be supporting local talent (as they are saying) when all their players are from brazil, africa, bosnia, whereever...
e) How hating someone for speaking a different language is the same as hating someone who is destroying something I love?
- "they are just different" was hardly an answer to that last question.
If you cant or dont want to... Fine. Dont. Ignore it. But stop answering with the same freaking "youre just jealous" / "they are just different" bullshit...

Once again, that fits perfectly into my image of somone who "supports" Bayern and Hoffenheim... :D

Hoffenheim Thread is still closed ! Shame.
Another great victory and another great play from the boys.
Ba, Obasi, Ibi - the best 3 forwards I've seen in a long time. Great harmony to watch. Salihovic came as a sub, from the start he was the leader on the pitch. Very Riquelme-ish.
So many wonderful players, I hope some stay for Hoffenheim next season.

I've stopped being skeptical about Hoffenheim and I like them more and more. I'm actually thinking about buying some TSG merchandise. :)
They play great offensive soccer that is a lot of fun to watch. In a way they are like Bremen, just slightly better at the moment.
And I too cant understand all the hate - Hopp is not Abramovich. He didnt buy himself a nice little club and spent hundreds of millions on €'s on it. He brought the TSG to the top at a slow pace, by building a good team, by building infrastructure, etc. Hoffenheim did not suddenly come out of nowhere. Hopp is really helping the whole region with his efforts.
And as a side note, I'm not a fan of the old-fashioned approach to soccer. I'd rather see the sport americanized (salary caps anyone?) and I prefer watching on TV as opposed to being at the stadium.
Oh, yes, great game today. I've put my (virtual) money on a Torschützenkönig from Hoffenheim. Both Ba and Ibisevic can easily do that!
