I'm fully convinced that Hoffenheim would have paid money for Hildebrand also. Hildebrand is a darling of Ragnick, he was the coach who gave him his first match in the Bundesliga back in the Stuttgart days. At a reasonable price, and the price would always have been 'reasonable' knowing about Hildebrand's situation in Valencia, which was anything but new, Hoffenheim definitely would have bid for him.

Hildebrand had no choice but to come back to Germany, even if Valencia would not have let him go for free. Where should / could he have gone?

I honestly don't see your point. You seem to vehemently oppose the idea that Hilde's signing is a "next step", fair enough. But why is it so important to you that this image this club has created - we concentrate on our youth, and if we buy players, only young and cheap - remains intact, despite numerous facts showing in a completely different direction? Or to put it differently: Just because Hoffenheim likes to sell that image, because it's marketable and gives them good press, it doesn't mean that everyone has to buy it.

The mechanisms of this business, and football is nothing else, have not changed with Hoffenheim. Been there, done that.

Nothing more to add to this really. Time will tell what direction this club will take, but I'm sure that if they want to establish themselves at the top, and that's obviously what they want, a lot of those "principles" will be a thing of the past soon.

I think you need more evidence than signing Timo to make your argument. If they go out and sign a player at the top of his game, who is a known commodity - say ....Diego. Then they are the next step. Right now Timo is just filling a need.

If they sign Simon Rolfes - or someone like that, that might be the next step. Tobias Weiss is playing well, but Rolfes is a step above.

Or if they sign an established field player 26-29 years of age.

Nothing that was published before Hildebrand became free supports that opinion. As I told you, the two Borussias were reported to have talked to him, but not Hoffenheim....

I can tell you what I was told all you want, but since I can't say who told me, I don't expect you to believe me.

Hildebrand had no choice but to come back to Germany, even if Valencia would not have let him go for free. Where should / could he have gone?

Tottenham is in the market for a better goalkeeper. Newcastle wants competition for Shay Given. AC Milan is known to want some fresh blood at the position. Man City is rumored to be preparing a huge offer to Juventus for Buffon. If that happens, do you really think Juventus is prepared to trust their future to Alex Manninger?

Those are just ones off the top of my head. If I did some digging, I could find more.

Hildebrand isn't back in Germany because he had no choice. Hildebrand is back in Germany because it was his choice.

Dude, I think we are just seeing the same situation two different ways. All I'm saying is that because Hoffenheim stated their intention, you can't hold them to EVERY signing fitting that agenda. Sure, they've made three BIG transfers. But all the rest, the ones you seem to ignore, fit their stated plan.

Again, show a club with a stated agenda who has ever stuck to it 100%. That is a general agenda, of course some situations will cause them to deviate from it.

That's all I'm saying. Frankly man, I don't give a rat's ass if you buy it or not. I'm not here to change your mind. I'm just giving the other point of view.

And we totally agree there. You have to make adjustments to become successful and stay that way.

I have not seen much of Hoffenheim this season but of course heard lots about them ;) ........just wondering how good the current goalkeeper is? average?

I see Hildebrand signed and with the team playing very well it would be a bit unfair for him to just waltz straight in as 1st choice keeper if the current keeper is playing well. I don`t particularly rate Hildebrand that highly but if he`s a substantial improvement then fair enough.

He's going to be an improvement. The defense needs some leadership and Timo will help with that, plus he's an upgrade at the position.

Even Hopp is irritated about Rangnick's pompous "my wages have to be the highest" quote.

http://www.sportbild.de/sportbild/generated/article/fussball/2008/12/29/11236300000.html

P.S.: footyfan1, none of the clubs you listed were interested in Hildebrand, because those clubs won't sign a player who, plain and simple, failed in his first season abroad. Hildebrand had no choice but to go back to Germany, especially in the context of improving his chances to be called up for the national team again.

Hopp says that there will be new players in the winter for Hoffenheim ! Can't wait. Buonanotte ? I would die. It also sounds that Hoffenheim was after Kroos.

Ghana midfielder Sampson Cudjoe has started trials with German top-flight side Hoffenheim.
The 20-year-old, who has also been targeted by Scottish giants Celtic, will train with the Bundesliga pacesetters for two weeks.
He will be handed a three-year deal if he impresses the German league's new-boys who have impressed so far this season.
"I have arrived in Germany and even though the first team of Hoffenheim are on tour I will train with the second side before they arrive," Cudjoe said.

Not a surprise. There's no disputing that Rangnick has an inflated value of his self-worth.

I wonder about Meyer being there. He makes me laugh my head off.

Ragnick clearly leading atm. (39%)

Rangnick got in range yesterday after Hoffenheim lost at the semi-finals
of a local indoor tournament against local rival Waldhof Mannheim.
He was pissed of the Mannheim fans making jokes of Hoffenheim
and blamed them: "It´s unbelievable, how the Mannheim fans behaved.
They booed us all the tournament and cheered for all our opponents.*
If I were Dittmar Hopp i wouldn´t give them a cent anymore" (context:
Hoffenheim plans to bring them out of depts and make them a farm team
doing youth developement).

*What a surprise for a derby between local rivals.

Know the story. Rangnick is an admitted sore loser. And thankfully for him, he apparently doesn't give a shit what anyone else thinks. LOL!! :D
