Did anyone see the melee in the Barra Brava section on Saturday night? I want to hear anyone's thoughts.

it was a very small disagreement between one member and a guest. there was no melee, no fists thrown, etc, just some chest bumping and talk. the two guys were told to stop, didn't and the mpd very professionally and respectfully tossed them. i went with them to make sure there was no incidents like last year and the whole thing was defused and over in a minute or two.
this was a non-issue and i'd respectfully suggest the mods close this thread.

Actually, fists were thrown and three people were booted out. Security did an excellent job both times. They showed restraint the first time it happened and took the appropriate action the second time it happened. I get frustrated when things like that happen because BB should be about singing and cheering, not that crap.
I guess I am more disappointed with the lack of singing and cheering in BB. It seemed as though that from the third row back (except for the usual awesome drums) the crowd was quiet.

Actually fists were thrown, ONE person was thrown out, and that kind of shit happens in the Barra all the time. If it didn't there would be no La Norte today. The whole thing was a major misunderstanding and we all shook hands and let it go. No big deal. And I'm pretty sure the Barra rocked row 1 thru 20 thru out.

It doesn't matter who I am, I was close enough to see the whole thing. I also saw the dude who instigated it disrespecting Oscar, who has done more for BB than anyone. Soccer fans are trying to overcome the tag of being violent (let's leave that to the Turks).
If we want security to stay off of our a** then we need to stop crap like this from happening.
Yes Chico, this may happen all of the time but it still doesn't make it right. When I get mad at DC United I yell at the other team and the ref, I don't throw punches at my fellow BBs.
Plus, if you think I am a newbie, I am one of the few people that can say that they were in Foxboro in 1996 to see them hoist their first cup.
I will always suport DC United and the BB but I will never support some a**hole starting a needless fight.
I also think that we can beat Chicago 2-0 on Sunday and win in PKs.
Play on!

I sat in 134 and it was pretty loud there...

Sorry, couldn't resist :)
I'm sorry, Dave, but I can't disagree more with your statement. The Barra and SEs, in the stadium, are as visible of representatives as DC fans have. It was a small thing, but I know a lot of people outside of the sections who saw it.
When I was president of my fraternity, one of the few worthwhile things I learned from the people at the national chapter is that the actions of a few can sully the reputation of all to those outside the group.
Two of our jobs (and when I say "our" I mean everyone who sits in 134 and 135) are a) giving maximum support to the team and maximum difficulty (within all legal bounds) to the opposition, and b) making becoming a hardcore fan accessible and appealing to anyone who wants to stand, sing, yell, and cheer for 90 minutes. When people are fighting over God-knows-what at the absolute biggest game of the year, they're not doing their jobs as true, hardcore fans. Then people outside the groups see that and think "THOSE are the hardcore guys? They're fighting each other instead of cheering." We're 0 for 2 on the above jobs.
I and pretty much everyone else in the sections know that it wasn't a "Barra thing" - it was a "two people who happen to be in the Barra thing." But I also know most of the people in the Barra, like almost all of them, and count several as genuine, see-em-all-year-round friends.
But other people don't know us. Most of them don't even differentiate between the Eagles in 134 and the Barra in 135. It's one big hardcore group to them - and that's a good thing. There's nothing more idiotic than fans of a team getting territorial and pulling away from one another like it's some sort of gang thing.
What goes on in the sections reflects on all of us - Barra and Eagles. And when bad things happen at our first playoff game in 4 years, well...we don't look good.
Soapbox mode off. If you guys think I'm out of line and this is a Barra-only issue, say so and I'll shut up from here on out.

By the way, I have to throw in my two cents that the word "melee" is really the wrong word to use. It was a small thing. To call it the "Barra Brava" melee is especially unfair.

I wasn't trying to trivialize what happened. Hell, I was in the middle of it trying to calm everything down. My intent was that it will be/has been dealt with. Let's hope the case is closed and we can move on.
I also would like to add that the Eagles/Barra cooperation this year has been outstanding, making life hell for whoever we are facing. It has been an honor being a part of that at every match this year.
ps. I was hoping someone would post that picture ;)

I have replaced melee with brouhaha in the thread title. Among other advantages it's also alliterative. :)

That seems reasonable. Whatever happened, it wasn't too big a deal. One of the CSC guys said it was an "arguement that escalated" but didn't seem too upset about it.
Besides, they were too busy trying to make sure there were enough cops at the visitors tunnel to make sure we didn't douse the Fire with beer, TP and more. Apparently, some of the players complain when we do that. I can't understand why!

I've been Barra Brava since day one, how come I've never met you? If you were true Barra you wouldn't be spouting this shit on BigSoccer. I went to Foxboro '96, RFK 97, LA '98, Foxboro '99 and been in dustups since.
Actualy knocked some Fusion fan on his ass cause
he happened to diss the Barra during the intermission between the DC and USA v Honduras game.

Gee, we'd sure hate it if peope thought soccer fans were all drunken, brawling hooligans. Way to make the Barra look like a rational, mature group of supporters, Chico!

As long as you're happy Chico.
Don't let things like the team or the other supporters get in the way of a good time.
