Great article.. I agree with it to an extent. I mostly believe that even though Adu and Altidore have been ready for awhile, they have better competition abroad than they do in CONCACAF...so they will develope more at their clubs.

Lippi has called up Rossi and Montolivo.

But Mosse missed the bigger point - if it's the same Empty Bucket with twin d-mids all over again, then it'll be square pegs across the roster.

PS. Vicente Feola also left Garrincha on the bench (as well as Pele) for the opening two matches in the 1958 World Cup.

He had, ahem, a deep roster.

Beckham had already been marginalised for England before this article was written. Apart from that this is a good article.

Though I tend to agree I'd like to say two things:

1) Adu and Altidore are NOT Pele. Please
2) Theo Walcott.

I'm not sure he missed that point so much as didn't express it very well. He did talk about that it's a necessity that the coach put his players in a position to succeed -- something many would argue has been Bradley's biggest weakness (though to be fair, that's really been true since Sampson).

Is it too early to call for Charles Renken? I mean, I know Adu got hyped up to levels that were probably too extreme, but I'm cautiously optomistic that this kid could break into one of the EPL big four clubs before he turns 18, and if that turns out to be the case, could inject a whole lot of young talent to the full nats.

Good article though, one of the better I've seen from espn in a while.

Good article though, one of the better I've seen from espn in a while.Don't forget he is even playing up on the 17's, 2014 is pretty likely but he will still be extremely young. Renken is a 1994 so he would only be like 16 in South Africa and that's not going to happen. He will still only be 19 or 20 in 2014 which is still extremely young.

Right, I'm not outright calling for him to be a full nat or a U21 or anything. But, as far as the article goes, I'd say he's just as much a reason to be excited about US soccer as Adu or Altidore :)

Just keep letting him play and let things happen and with the talent he has yes it does sound like he will be a phenominal player for the full team at some point and the 2014 WC could be very likely even though he will still only be 19 or 20 years of age.
