Sepp Blatter, in his infinite wisdom made an announcement today-
Blatter plan Sinks U.S. 2018 World Cup Hosting Hopes
- FIFA president Sepp Blatter will propose new World Cup bidding rules that would dash the hopes of the United States to host the 2018 tournament.
Blatter will make the proposals for a regional World Cup bidding structure later this month. Blatter said Monday he wants to avoid the World Cup staying in the Americas after Brazil stages it in 2014.Apologies if there is a thread on this, but I didn't see it.

If South Africa turns out to be a debacle, FIFA will probably re-think all of it policies and procedures concerning who is and isn't awarded a WC. If they lose $$$$$ in SA, wouldn't be suprised to see the US in the running for 2018. They would want to recoup their losses as quickly as possible????

There is an older thread on US Men that has some of the 2018 bid background (as well as the usual BS).

Do they consider Africa, Europe, and Asia one continent?

It should be England in 2018 as it will have been 50 years plus since they last held the thing.

If we're being fair and all, yeah England deserves it in 2018. It will have been 12 years since a European WC, I can't see them waiting till 2022 to go back to Europe.

Before you posted your suggestion, maybe - now, there's no chance.
Way to go, genius! You've got a lot to learn about covert ops. Or overt ops, for that matter.

Blatter is so EUROCENTRIC that it makes me sick. I really hope this guy at least holds the world cup in Australia, not Europe. Everyone knows that the U.S or Mexico should have been next in line.
Well, fu*k England. I hope they do terrible again and they probably will. I hope the U.S can make some sort of statement during SA 2010. I know that we have the potential.

I agree with going back to Europe in 2018. Mainly cause I want to go back while I can still enjoy drinking that much beer.
On a serious note. The US is clearly never going to get any favors out of Blatter. So why does Sunil Gulati not start slowly undermining that embarassment at FIFA and his cronies at CONCACAF.
If we are willing to get our hands a little dirty, the USMNT program produces enough money to buy more favor out of the Central American and Carribbean than Jack Warner can match. A new CONCACAF leader from Costa Rica or Puerto Rico that does not march to Blatter's drummer, nor is hopelessly corrupt like Warner, would sure be good for the game in our region and the world.
I guess I'm hopelessly hijacking the thread -- but it just seems relevent.

I agree, England needs all the help they can get qualifying for the WCF anymore.
