He is already tied to Italy, since he is 21 and played for the Italian U-21 team.
This is the first thread since Feb. about Rossi that I have seen on US Men or US Mens:News & Analysis.

I might be wrong, but I don't think playing for the youth team excludes you from switching the country you play for as I seem to clearly recall examples of this happening. If I am incorrect, then my bad.

If you only play at a youth level for one country you can switch to represent another country before you turn 21. Playing for a senior side in an official competition cap ties you permantely regardless of age. Once you turn 21, even your youth representation cap tie you permanently. So if Neven Subotic doesn't switch before he turns 21, he is tied to the US based on his Youth NT caps.

The one rule about switching teams is that you can only switch to countries you were eligible for when you played your first YNT game.

The only "finally" about this is hopefully FINALLY all the idiots who said that Italy would never call up someone who plays outside of Serie A will FINALLY shut up.

By the standards as listed above, Rossi could still play for the USA if he so chose because he isn't yet 21. He turns 21 in February of next year.

Therefore he is not cap-tied to any country until he plays a full international for that country. That means he could have played Italian U21 games up the wazoo and still play for the US.

So my statement still stands and is relevant enough. Once he plays for Italy, he is cap-tied to Italy, and then we can finally say good-riddance.

EDIT- MY bad, he is 21. My apologies for wasting this thread....

He turned 21 in on the 1st of February earlier this year. He'd already been capped by Italian youth sides. He was eligible for both Italy and the USA being an Italian-American dual citizen. Thus, cap-tied to Italy already.

Sorry for the thread jack, but...

Whatever happened to JOB? He still should be the right age for 2010. He was such a talented player and so successful in Europe.

Just my opinion, but I think Bradley should keep an open mind about him. Just my $.02...

Out of fairness, the thread starter referred to a G. Rossi. Maybe he was talking about Gino Rossi, Giuseppe's less talented, younger brother.

Gino's the one who has declared for the USA IIRC...

Well, he needs help in Math, but it's an understandable mistake. Rossi threads have become a little too persecuted by BigSoccer USMNT posters. Constant repetitive threads are annoying, but I don't recall another subject here that raises so many emotions at the slightest mention. If anything, the reactions to this thread seem to say that this issue is still alive and well in people's minds.

For example:

"If you don't want to play for USA, then we don't want you"

-Landon Donovan.

I think this is an appropriate way of putting this issue into perspective, yet I know a post like this could get tons of neg rep because people seem to boil in intense anger at the slightest mention of Rossi.

Those who still support him simply because he is a US citizen have an equally strong reaction against those who insult him, which leads me to think that those in this category secretly hate him too. :D

You either don't visit the U.S. Forum much, or you just don't follow U.S. Soccer that much. O'Brien has officially retired. He is playing beach soccer in Cali, but that's it.
