i just bought this game yesterday and so far i'm not liking it. I don't if that's because I absolutely suck at it. maybe i'll like it more when i get better at it.

the off the ball controls seem a bit complicated. the defenders close in on you before you've set up your teammate's run.

hopefully i'll start to like it more cause right now i'm pissed that i spent 50 bucks on it.

i feel you. but dont get impatient. I too had problems at first... just went to the practice field and just got the basics.. the give and goes.. the one-two passes. the L2 controls..

I juked the *#*#*#*# out of thei defender in the practice mode. I was playing with Chuwy Mendoza... with R2 i was walking towards him.. then with the right analog stick i messed with it.. and he did this move where he brings the ball in and then pushed it out again.. like that move that D'alesandro (ex river) does quite often.

i still have problems with the off the ball controls.. im learning them in practice... i started 11 on 8... and gradually working up... when i play exhibitions... i try it every now and then..but usually just do the L1 when when i pass it the guy starts running.. and then i pass it bck to him... doing that.. i seem to open up some lanes in the mid field... doesnt work all that much for me when i am near the box... but i am getting better..

i also practice my directs and my corners.. i finannly scorted a goal off a corner. I chose far post and i cam up with Davino.. davino scored it. about 4 minutes later... Pumas tied the match. Beltran also got a header off a corner

My roomates are playing it right now.......I took one of them to PK's with Pumas and he was AC Milan.

Yesterday I beat Boca 1-0 with a direct free kick by who else????????????????????? That's right.
Cuahtemoc.

I also am beginning to master the L2 buttons and scored a beautiful three touch goal with Blanco passing to Sergio Blanco and he one timed it to Abreu where he volleyed it with ease against the keeper.
I beat Olympiakos with this goal.

Hey ric..........how do you set up the America's cup? I haven't even looked into that.

Hey ric..........how do you set up the America's cup? I haven't even looked into that.

here is how i have my team set up

4-2-3-1
Wingplay
pressing (sometimes i contain)

GK - Rios

RB - Castro
RCB - Rojas
LCB - Davino
LB - Mendoza

RDM - Pardo
LDM - Villa

RWM - Oviedo
CAM - C. Blanco
LWM - Patiņo

ST - Abreu

Mendoza as LB and Patiņo as my left wing are really working out for me.

I am surprised that Ortiz is better than Salinas...

at first when i started playing exhibitions.. i didnt see a bunch of players.. but then i found out that they even have Macias, Torres, Santiago,, etc Fernandez.

I just set up my first America's Cup. I added Monterrey into the mix and took away all MLS team. I added Botafogo, Gremio, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama, Sao Caetano, Perrerias (sp), etc..

also yesterday i was just messing around. I played a season.. where i started with milwall. kind of cool that they have 4 english leagues.. the premier all the way to the 3rd.. i was getting my ass kicked... soi just decided to practice more because i want to prepare for the americas cup.

i played a game today with my little brother.. i was Juve and he was playing with Barcelona... goood game

Levante,

it's easy, on the main menu, go to the tab that says game modes, there are options career, practice and tournament modes. go to tournament, and there's two pages of tournaments to choose from, the America's Cup is on the second page, it's the only one on the second page actually.

From there you choose the team you want to play with. If the club you want isn't on there, you can sub it for one of the ones that is already on there. In fact, and I think rdl alluded to this, you can sub any other team for any team that's on there.

It's played with 16 teams in league format, which I didn't expect.

what do the L1/L2 and R1/R2 controls do on the ps2?

I'm wondering if i'm missing out on any gameplay features on the gamecube since the controller has less shoulder buttons..

quite frankly... i dont see it.. now that i have played 2 soccer games on the SP2.. i found that winning 11's pace of play is too slow. control is about the same..

It all depends on what you prefer in a footy game. FIFA is an Arcade game. Fast paced and high scoring with great graphics. It is also very easy to play which makes it quite popular in the U.S.. Winning 11 is a football sim. It has the best AI of all footie games period. The goals that you can score in WE6 and that can be scored against you are bar none. I guarantee you that after a while the goals you score in Fifa will become repetive and you will find patterns and angles for scoring guaranteed goals.

My first footy games where all EA Fifa series. Starting from FIFA 96 all the way to Fifa 2000 at which point i just gave up. Anyways when i first bought the WE games "Pro Evolution" it took me a while to adjust. And i almost gave up on the game because i couldnt score a freaking goal while in fifa after 20 min i can be playing in their hardest difficulty setting which becomes a session of Pin pong. Anyhoo the more i played WE the more i appreciated the game. It is truly the most realistic you can get to a footy match. Fast paced is not realistic hence people that want to sprint at lightning speed from one side of the field to the other should play FIFA but if you actually want to build up a play or break down your opponents tactics then WE is the game..

Since you own both games then i would say play FIFA to your Hearts delight. Then after you get bored of winning 7-2 or 5-1 all the time then you go to Winning 11 and after you learn the controls and play for a good while you will truly see the diffrence especially when you start playing against friends this game becomes the shitznit..

Thank God for someone who understands...

WE6 is so great... I remember the first Konami soccer game I played, it was Pro Evolution for PS1... I played the master league at medium difficulty and did not score for 3 games....

I have played several Fifa games... its all about button pressing... no thought required at all, that is the problem.... In WE6 I find myself bringing a striker back to the middle to get the ball, or pushing a D-Mid or even a defender up to help in attack.

One of the coolest things I have ever come accross in a game that shows great AI is that occassionally, when you have your defenders in standard defensive mode, one of them will make a run, up the flank (even when playing a 3-4-3) or into the box if you have enough possesion.

The best goal ever scored in a video game???
Real vs. Man U Hierro clears a ball a long long way from the top of his box... Barthez comes off his line to try and intercept the ball as it enters his box, he misjudges the bounce and while back pedalling makes a lame attempt to stop it. Result Hierro with a goal from a mile out.... I nearly cried, but then ofcourse I laughed....

Did you save the goal !!! Those goals are worth the replays.. One of the reasons i like WE6 is that the players are not perfect. Not every cross has pin point accuracy or clearance !!! and the goalies dont make the superman saves you see in FIFA. This makes the game more realistic IMO..

No, if you don't like much the sports games (thats all it has).

I have a PS2, PSone, Game Cube, Dream Cast and N64. But the games that i really like are the massive multy player games, Like Warcraft 3 & Unreal, and portable games like the ones for GBA and games for my PocketPc.

For me the sports games mean one thing, multiplayer when friends come to visit.

Dude, when it comes to Multiplayer games, there's no competition. The computer games own all. Americas Army, Quake 2(classic online fraggin), Half-life, Team Fortress, Counter-Strike and many more... You cant compare, online PC gaming is the best.;)
