View Full Version : Alegria's NOT an SI next season!

I've had enough of people getting all confused about Chino's status next season! He is currently a Junior International which means he is roster and salary cap exempt. However, since MLS eliminated JI status this season, they felt sorry for the teams and allowed Chino and one other guy to remain JI for this year before moving to TI status next season.
MLS rules state:
The USSF (United States Soccer Federation) has established that a player is considered an international unless he meets the following criteria:
- The player is a United States citizen
- The player is in the United States as a resident alien (green card) or under asylum protection, regardless of eligibility to play for the U.S. National Team.
In accordance with United States Immigration and Naturalization laws, MLS shall not limit or restrict the number of lawful permanent or temporary residents, asylees or refugees permitted to play on any team's active roster. Green card holders therefore count as U.S., and not international, players.
Transitional Internationals - These are international players whose 23rd or 24th birthday will fall during the calendar year 2002. Transitional International players will not receive roster protection and will count against a team's salary budget, but will not count toward a team's three Senior International player limit.
Chino's birthday is listed as 5 October 1980, meaning he is 21 years old. This means he won't count as a SI for two more seasons.
2003 Season - 22 years old remains TI
2004 Season - 23 years old remains TI
2005 Season - 24 years old but become SI because his 25th B-day is during this calendar year (same thing that happened with Nelsen).
GET IT PEOPLE!

You corrected me last week, and I got it, thanks. Though the USSF version you posted here is clear and easier to read that the gobbldy gook MLS wrote on their site. As with MLS when it come to rules=confusion. Also I corrected him in my post as well.

That's a small and select group. :D Check out the new tagline to Business and Media if you haven't yet.

The other guy was Josue Mayard at Dallas. He plays even less than Chino.
Most of the time I was confused because I thought Chino was 23 or 24 already. Perhaps, one day, I'll start this "fact-checking" that I keep hearing so much about.

While you're at it, fact check on Freddy Adu's age. I hope he's not an SI next year.

I assume Chino won't take a developmental contract and the few pennies that come with it (but that's the only way he wouldn't count against our cap & roster next year).
If that's true, does anyone think he is on United's roster next year? And if United lets him go, will he play in MLS next year? Or will he be feeding ATC and/or RDA in the A-League?

Let's run those people out of town! Really, facts over speculation. What kind of policy is that? There is no place for that on bigsoccer.
You didn't answer the question! What are we going to do next season when Chino becomes a senior international? :D

So what you're saying here is...let me get this one straight. Next year we will have Nelsen, Etheverry, Reyes, Alegria, Moreno, Quintanilla and possibly Gascionge that are forgein players for us? And we have to get down to 3?? Is Rimando on that list too?
Wow we're screwed!

Alegria's days in a DCU uniform are rapidly coming to a close. I just don't see him making Ray's team next year.

This is one great thread. Thanks revelation. I think we should dedicate it to The Cartographer.

Speaking of Mappy, since he is going to Spain for a week or so does THIS effect his international status? Like when he's on the plane to Spain does that make him a Transitional International? And when he lands in Spain does this make him a Senior International? If so, does that mean we have to cut Moreno? When he plays a game in Spain will he play in a Jack Edwards Full International or does that only happen when he finishes eating a meal there? Does Mappy eating a meal mean we have to cut Plate O' Food Jaime? Dang, this international stuff is hard to figure out...

Etch has a green card (I believe) so he doesn't count against us. I also think that Moreno is "trying" to get a green card, but I'm not positive. Rimando is an american citizen, so he isn't on that list.
