To those of you who think Vergara is a "racist", you need to get out of the US some. What he's saying is pure nationalism and, as a result, undoubtedly acceptable where he's from (as it would be in many other countries).

We have the same problem in this country but we call it patriotism

Two things in this country that I am passionate about...

1) People who feel they have the right to burn the flag. As an American Veteran of 2 Foreign Wars at the ripe old age of 25 I find this topic very.. Dishartning. Protest the Government or current administration, Never, EVER, burn the symbol of that which gives you and many others around the world there freedom's.

2) Our Government spending Billions on Foreign Countrys in which I feel that money should go to Inner city schools and teachers.

Im from a small town of 7,000 people, only 2 minority family in it we never had any school issues, lack of books desks teachers etc.. Our crime rate was pretty much non existant.

But I believe the 90 billion we just gave to the Iraq / Afghanistan war would be better spent in say some school in Harlem or South Central. If that 90 billion helps 300 kids a year stay out of gangs, further there education, make something of themselves in 15 years you see gangs numbers drop way down.. 300 X 15 = 4,500 + the overflow from lack of peer pressure.

Family centers in the Inner city.. etc.. Im not saying the inner city is the cause of all the problems in the US, but that is where a vast majority of problems lie and you can do some preventive maintenance it goes a long way..

But the Administration does not care about this because it is a long term fix, and quite honestly.. they could care less about results 10 years from now, that will not get them re-elected in 2/4 years.

And this has what to deal with soccer? NOTHING! But it really just wanted to post some thoughts since this thread had some education topics in it :p

Let's get something straight. The $87 billion to pull Iraq into the civilized family of nations and continue to win our war on terrorism isn't coming out of your cherished education budget. It's actually fresh money being appropriated for something necessary.

The education lobby in this country has been asking for more and more money as long as I can remember. If throwing dollars at the "education problem" were the answer, it would have been solved long ago. Where I live, the New York State lottery was created way back when in order to fund this so-called "problem." Do they continue to ask for more? You bet they do. I'm sure other states have justified dubious endeavours in order to feed this "education" monster. When the hell is enough enough?? We even created a useless Education Department at the Federal level, as if another bureaucracy is the answer. And don't get me started on the teacher unions and NEA.

This war we are engaged in is a separate issue from the "education" pick-pockets that run rampant around our country who claim the money is coming at the expense of this country's kids.

Your post sounds sincere, so I don't mean to rip you, but telling me that my President doesn't give a damn about educating kids is bull**** and you know it.

Oh yeah, since this is a Chivas forum, permit me to add...GO CHIVAS!!

Fresh money? Where does fresh money come from?

Yeah, I don't know either.

Bad terminology.

What I mean is that it's not coming from other sources directly. The United States doesn't have to "find" $87 billion someplace else in the budget and move it over in order to spend it now on the war effort.

One could argue that Bush will "cut" spending in other quarters of the government as some form of compensation in the future, but one should view those kinds of "cuts" over the very long term. For instance, if the budget for education or the environment is "reduced" by X% by Bush at some point, but those budgets have increased over the last decade or so by Y% and Y is far greater than X, than how much of a "cut" is it. For God's sake, even when a Republican tries to reduce the speed of growth in a program, he's charged with "cutting" it.

This isn't the place to argue about this, but I can't stand this "cost of the war" debate being turned into some ridiculous education and kids versus Vietnam Part II guns-and-butter song-and-dance.

I'm sorry if I was a little too strident in my previous post.
