I think this is great for MLS and soccer as a whole. Hopefully attendance, TV time, and sponsorship will rise due to this. There is a lot of money that will be redirected to the MLS. Baseball blows!! Die baseball Die!!

Please move this to the "Thread topics that have been rehashed a thousand times forum."

"Other Sports" would work, too.

Maybe you have rehashed it a thousand times. Some people have other things going on in their lives besides loggin on to bigsoccer all day. 15,000 posts? Ever seen the sun?

Anyway, glad to see them strike, but Aug 30 is too far away! I want them to strike now.

How about "Other Things That Won't Really Help MLS Despite Tons of Ranting to the Contrary"? Do we have a forum like that? :)

Time to launch the We Want To Help effort.

That's right Don, get out the tray system and start looking at Yankee Stadium for the Metro games. Since NJSEA is far from helpful, let's see how they do with you at Yankee Stadium.

How? Easy...you claim breach of contract by NJSEA by providing a surface not fit for cow tipping, much less soccer. You cite the Real vs. Roma match as both evidence, and part of the breach of contract, because it worsened the field to beyond playable. It will be in court for a decade.

Meanwhile, you are in downtown NY in Uncle Hank's stadium, on trays, and proving that soccer is very popular when it's not at NJSEA's venue.

Same story in Colorado, Chicago, Elay, heck, why not Arlington?

This can only do what Bradley asked for...help baseball fans get over their angst. After all, they can still go to games, they just don't last as long.

This is news like it or not. You don't have to post or read.

Aug 30th is too long , they moght work this out before then. And there would only be a few weeks of the season left. At least we wouldn't have to deal with Sept 11th tributes at all the baseball games. Understood it is a sensitive subject, way overdone.

I'm not sure the Bronx is downtown NY, but I like the idea.

Isn't it over in the Business and Media area? ;)

The baseball strike (if it ever comes to it) will hardly affect MLS at all. Instead of 45 minutes of baseball highlights on Sportscenter, there will be 45-50 minutes of labor talks on Sportscenter. Plus with football coming up, no soccer highlights.

I like the idea of the Metros playing at Yankee Stadium, even though it probably is a while away. I also like the idea of taking the NJSEA to court.

BTW, if any has, or knows where I can find George Zoffinger's email, let me know. As soon as I do, I will be starting the official "I Hate George Zoffinger Because..." thread.

1) Setting a strike date is largely a negotiating tactic. I'm doubtful that there will actually be a serious work stoppage.

2) If there is a strike, there's no good reason to believe a significant amount of additional money or media interest will be heading MLS's way.

3) You can like baseball or hate it as you please, but when people get the impression that soccer fans are dancing in the streets because of baseball's problems, you hurt the image of the sport in the eyes of the unconverted and thus make it much less likely that the additional money or media interest will be heading MLS's way.

Exactly. I am hoping that they strike so that my Brewers won't lose a hundred games (but they will still do that anyway). Bashing another sport to make soccer look better does more harm than good.

MLS attendance should have a huge spike in September if this really happens.

I frankly can't understand people who think that a strike in a $3B a year industry that kinda sorta competes with MLS will have no impact on MLS. I mean, if .1% of the $3B flows to MLS, that's an impact for MLS. If 1% of the highlight time on SportsCenter and 1% of the column inches flow to MLS, that's an impact for MLS.

MLS is a mosquito that can get very fat from the blood of an elephant that will never notice the blod is gone.

Or if Yoda said it:

Mosquito that can get fat from the blood of an elephant, MLS is.

Never notice the blood is gone, the elephant will.

There is something sickening, virtually unAmerican, about hoping baseball dies because it might help soccer out a little bit.

Never mind the misquito bites--that's small time! where's my ELEPHANT GUN???? Pow, one fell-swoop!

Along time ago (20 years ago, in fact), I read a book chronicling the history of the reserve clause and became somewhat sympathetic to the plight of professional baseball players..

..man, that must have been quite a long time ago!! Now: a curse on both houses! Or to quote the bad guy in the 1997 sci-fi flick "Dark City":

SHUT IT DOWN!

What about hoping that MLB as it is right now dies because it is the symbol of all that is wrong in America right now?

Is that "unAmerican?"
