From the wires:

Manchester City have begun legal proceedings for "circumstances surrounding Roy Keane's tackle" on Alfie Inge Haaland 16 months ago.
Republic of Ireland international Keane admitted in his forthcoming autobiography that he had launched a deliberate attack on then City skipper Haaland in a derby game 16 months ago.

The Norway international has played just once for the Blues since and City have now moved to confirm that they are looking to take legal proceedings against Keane and Manchester United after consulting Haaland and the Maine Road club's lawyers.

A club statement read: "Following discussions at Maine Road between the football club, Alfie and his legal advisers, it has been agreed to jointly instruct a leading firm of solicitors regarding the circumstances surrounding Roy Keane's tackle on April 21 2001.

"This action has been taken with a view to commencing legal proceedings against Roy Keane and his employers Manchester United Football Club."

When will Roy learn to keep his mouth shut.

He deserves what he gets.

I hope this will finally shut him up.

Listening to BBC Five Live ...

The ghost writer for the book has said he took artisitic liberties as to what Roy said with regards to this matter. Which really is not that big of a stretch. But who really knows.

i hope he gets lengthy ban and i hope that they dont go soft and fine him something like £20000 which like 1 hours pay. I hope he either gets banned for a long time or put in jail for ABH

But knowing the FA with its head firmly up Manure and Alex furguson's arse they will fine some thing pitiful.

In my eyes i think he should be banned for the same length of time that haarland has been injured. That would be some fair justice.....

Keane is the first player in any sport that I actually would be happy to see die. Such is my hatred. I better not say anymore.

First of all, calm the f*#k down. Do you really think they're serious about wanting him to die??

Second of all, Roy Keane deserves this. He knew what was written, the club knew what was written. It totally passed committee. It brought more attention to him and the club and noone minded. Now all of a sudden City talks about legal proceedings (which they SHOULD) and he gets the ghost writer to take the fall. What a load of crap. The man is a coward. He knew what was written in the book before it was printed, whether he personally meant it or not. Players only get a short period of their lives to play this sport, and Roy Keane is, aparently, personally responsible for someone missing nearly two years of his time.

You obviously are not well informed on Alfie's injury. Keane's tackle has nothing to do with why he has missed any playing time whatsoever. He has admitted it on more than one occasion. The case is all about "intent", and not about the actual result of the tackle itself.

sinse that incident he has not played....motterman you are not his personal fitness trainer or anything you dont know his injuries you just pass on information that you hear (not having a go there) just that unless you know first hand you dont know....

the way i see it...sinse he got carried off that game he hasnt played...put 2 and 2 together u get 4......

even if he did not cause the injury he actually tried to do it.

trying to injure a player in my eyes is worse than actually doing it without intent....by a long way. I really hope the fa dont go soft....

I suppose Alfie would qualify as an expert witness in the trial? The statements that Alfie made to the press do not prove that Roy Keane's tackle did not cause the injury - he probably wouldn't have wanted RK to have the satisfaction of knowing he hurt him until he heard the news that his career was probably over.

Don't you think it would be pretty easy for Manchester City and Alfie to introduce a surgeon who could offer what is commonly referred to as a second opinion?

It could be difficult to prove completely, but the fact that Alf has played all of 90 minutes in four sub appearances over the last 18 months is a pretty good indication that RK's tackle had a major impact on the knee.

I'm assuming Haaland himself would be "qualified" to address this, no?

**********

Haaland - on his own web site on Monday 14th May 2001

"Knee injury wasn't caused by Keane

I had the operation on my knee earlier in this week and it went well. In fact, I wouldn't really call it an operation; it was more of a clean-up job on my knee. And I just wanted to make it clear that it was not the knee that took a knock in the Manchester derby, despite what some papers have reported. It's my left knee that's been bothering me, and it was clearly shown on Sky that it was my right knee that took the knock. Another example of the papers not checking their sources! It's actually been bothering me for the last three months, but I've played through it as we attempted to avoid relegation."

This is simply irrelevant. No player's comment on his physical condition should be taken at full face value unless the player also has actual expertise in physiology and sports medicine, which Haaland doesn't.

As has been noted in a number of the newspaper stories on the subject, it is certainly possible to injure one knee while the OTHER knee is subject to stress, such as Keane's tackle. That's for medical specialists to determine. Haaland isn't one, I'm not one, and you are certainly not one.

Well, good luck proving that in court. *chuckle chuckle*

You ManU fans are sticking up for a thug...think about it.

Ask yourself..."if he was wearing any other jersey, would I be saying this right now??".

Me thinks you wouldn't be.

Wake up.
