Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if I could get some feedback on a clothing company I am trying to start. The basic premise would be an american soccer apparel company of t-shirts ,track jackets and hoodies. Some of the problems I have encountered are the name? ( some ideas include ,studs up,hattrick, nutmeg king .etc) I need something that embodies american soccer but is still native to any player of the game. This company would be specifically started to get us away from the whole soccer mom image etc therefore a brand image comparable to under armor would be what I'm shooting for.As far as a logo goes,do people prefer a crest or shield? I personally think that when creating a clothing logo(not club) simple is better. Any serious feedback would be appreciated.

crest/shield same thing.
If you want to start a soccer company then you should really start with uniforms. Develop light breathable fabrics that are durable and create simple designs and sell them to local soccer teams. Otherwise what are you doing even bothering with making it soccer themed?
A logo for a sports company shouldn't be a shield or anything overbearing, quick small and recognizable is what catches on. Nobody likes whoring out a company name and big logo when the company is small and unknown.
Studs up is an absolutely horrible name for a soccer company, your telling your customers to play dirty and get red carded? I agree and aggressive name is great but don't go overboard. Make it like the logo simple but memorable. 4Lines, or Far Post sound good and are specific to the game. Or you could go international and name it Finta or Jinga (both Portuguese words for Move) or Partida (Spanish for game) I dunno this is off the top of my head (but I hold copyrights on everything :p) Hell even your topic title is pretty good, American Soccer Apparel or A.S.A. Make quality products and a name like that makes for a very legit strong company.
Start with uniforms is how you get into the market and build credibility, starting a clothing line based on being a soccer company without any items actually used for soccer is just tacky and people see right through that.
You might also consider doing what a company called "Calle" did and started a street soccer company complete with a ball made for playing on concrete and durable soccer shoes made for playing on the streets.

I'd say that starting with uniforms is the last thing you should try. There are plenty right now and they all are fighting for more so anyone new has a next to impossible task of getting in. What can you offer that none of the others (Nike, Adidas, High 5 and the other 20 or so) already do?
I would say that starting up a lifestyle line of apparel is the right thing to do. Look at Calle, fashionable clothing that you can play pick up games in.
