My personal opinion only, if you disagree, no insult intended:

Those who support Jack and Ty do so at the expense of USSoccer's ability to attract new fans via tv. I can't tell you how many soccer fans and novices alike have commented to me that the announcing was horrible for the US World Cup games.

If mainstream sports fans don't enjoy watching, they won't watch.

I contend that most people on these boards who like Jack and Ty like them because they're so bad, they're funny to listen to, if you're amused by that sort of thing.

But only a die-hard could possibly feel that way.

If we had mediocre talents doing the commentary, we'd be so much better off. I think just about any MLS local broadcast team has at least one guy who's better than either Jack or Ty. Here in Northern California, for example, John Schrader calls the Quakes games. He's not nearly as "polished" as Jack, but he's sincere and doesn't have an ounce of phoniness about him. Now, I love the Quakes almost as much as I love the USMNT, but somehow the less polished Schrader doesn't make me want to turn off the volume the way Edwards does.

Again, just my opinion. I'm sure many disagree. But I also think USSoccer can do much, much better.

I can't honestly give you an indepth answer to that. But comments along the line of "those guys suck" were not uncommon.

I mean, seriously, how do you expect people to react to "Mine eyes have seen the Glory"?

Or watching John Madden draw all over the screen with his marker....give it a rest.....Are they great??? nope....but, who is, at least they are interested.

like Jeff Agoos and Richie Williams, Jack Edwards and Ty Keough should have nothing to do with the USMNT.

It was a mistake to have them there, but they did what they were asked, and now it is time to move on to newer and better options. This is no time to be content.

We need new announcers, it's time to improve. Keeping Jack and Ty out of the booth would be an improvement. Get people who understand the game and can talk about it with an appreciation, not a fanatical and misdirected passion.

I'm not a fan of doorknobs, god knows. Jack and Ty definitely qualify.

However, I'm not sure who it was, but the guy that was announcing Celtic/Livingston on FSW last night was about the worst I have ever heard.

I think he spoke twice in the second half. ;) (okay just a LITTLE bit of sarcasm) It seemed he only payed attention when the ball was in the attacking third on either side of the pitch.

Who was that guy?

And had a long tenure as a top SportsCenter anchor.

And does lots of big NHL games, including big playoff games.

He's on soccer because he loves the assignment, not as a punishment / banishment to the outer circles of sports announcer hell.
