Actually it wouldn't make it fair at all if you gave every country 3 spots because it wouldn't show the merited hierarchies of the Mexican League and the MLS. The other countries just can't cut it...sorry buts its the truth. CONCACAF is also very dependent upon each of the aforementioned league's viewer ratings. The MLS might lose a spot depending on how their teams participate in the next three years.

CONCACAF = FMF + MLS + Saprissa

Homie its a business, first and foremost. But the mexican league of shown that they are the teams to beat in this region. The MLS gets special conciderations because they are in america and that means more tv contracts ,etc.......The rest of central of america of not shown they can beat a Mexican team with consistancy as a Saprissa and alajuelence.

I dont think its fair but at the end day unless some team in concacaf besides saprissa or La Liga can beat the mexican and MLS teams with consistancy then we will always get the short end of the stick in these type of tournaments.

Not to beat a dead horse, but MLS really doesn't have a lot to show historically when it comes to club competitions. So, while it's true that they get 4 spots because they bring in the money, from a purely results point of view they have no merit to have so many.

...In my defense

Because it's more fun for CONCACAF empty suits to go shopping in the US than in Nicaragua or Anguilla.

MLS is also a strong top-to-bottom league. But, yeah, it's about population and money.

I wouldn't complain, though, if they took a spot from MLS.

Looking at historical results I can't justify the United States getting the same as FMF of four slots.

However, I'm guessing that if CCL is going to make it in the future it will have to have TV rights revenue from the USA so they structured slots in this way to get more US TV coverage.

I know the point is debatable, and I don't want to be the one to defend it, but I think the reality that CONCACAF believes is true is that you can have a CCL with over representation from America or no CCL at all.

I would not complain if they took one or two slots from the USA.

Having said that, what I really would like to see is one slot per country. One Champion per country. I really find the idea of teams in CCL that did not win their countries championship somewhat distasteful.

Finally -- has anyone seen ratings for CCL games? I know FSC is not rated yet, but how are CCL games faring on Telefutura? Enough viewers showing up to let this happen again next year?

Those of you in Central America and the Caribbean. How is interest in CCL in your countries?

Right on. I'd also revert to a knockout format. If you're lose, you're done. Leagues should just be domestic affairs.

I agree especially due to distances, lack of revenue, and fixture congestion in our region.

U.S.A. and Mexico get 8 spots, and the rest of the region gets 16, and you cant them to get more, even though these two countries have more than 8 of the best 24 teams in CONCACAF playing in them? Why?

I'd suggest going to 16 with a knockout then group stage. Group stage matches can be difficult to bring in fans as there is not the urgency there is with cup style, however it is a better means of deciding (always the one off bad performance).

With two groups of four, you'd probably get teams that can put butts in seats (at least 10K per match) which will make the tournament viable.

Also, we should reinstate the qualifiying tournaments for Central America.

Canada: 1 spot
Mexico 3 spots plus a playoff with US.
US 2 plus playoff with Mexico*
Costa Rica 1
Hondouras 1
Guatamala 1
Panama/El Salvador: 1 playoff
Cental American top 2
Caribean: Top 2
Caribean/CA: 3 v. 3 playoff

*US/Mexico playoff could be a revised Superliga

Not to beat a different dead horse, but...

MLS. DOES. NOT. GET. ANY. CL. SPOTS.

PERIOD.

The USSF gets them and distributes them as they see fit.

Having said that, I also would not be hurt if the U.S. lost 1 spot for next year and the third spot was a play-in. The old "2 1/2 spots" scenario.

Let's not forget that some teams were playing home games in different countries because their home country did not have a FIFA-approved stadium. This is part of the reason (IMO), besides possible TV revenue, that the UNCAF/CFU teams are fighting for so few spots. This problem is the exception and not the rule in US & Mexico.

It's a business. In the US, footy fans, despite being in the minority in the US, outnumber the population of some CONCACAF countries. From a money standpoint, the more larger-market teams (countries, not leagues) you have, the better your chance of breaking even. Does anyone think this tourney will will ever make any significant profit?

Personally, I think one of our (US) spots should go to Canada and one of Mexico's should go to UNCAF. I think it would increase the upset factor, but that is just my opinion.

Why does the Concacaf CL have 4 teams from U.S. and Mexico, you ask?

Because, in the case of 4 spots for US teams, CONCACAF doesn't care about football in the region. They just want to push MLS to succeed because they think they will have another source to fill their pockets with money.

I actually think the distribution of teams was pretty good this year. Not too many people expected MLS teams would crap the bed as they have. If they continue to do so for the next couple of years, then yes, perhaps drop US allotment to 3 or 3 1/2 teams.

Technically the MLS gets 3 spots and has the opportunity to gain a 4th.

This past year, it was the top 3 MLS clubs, who are American (Toronto cannot qualify through MLS), plus the winner of the USOC, which is open to all professional US soccer teams.

I really don't know why the U.S. get's 4 spots, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with TV revenue. However, I would hope that a couple of shameful tournaments and that number would be cut down post-haste.
