Mopeds are actually a pretty good way to move around here. The scenic routes are awsome. I actually rode a bike which was good excersize and great view of the city. The hills can be a b1tch though

My sister dropped a very expensive camera down those steps once. We ended up purchasing a cheap Kodak camera to hold us over for the remainder of our trip.

BTW, could you tell me more about UNESCO?

I am really enjoying this Mexico NSR forum. It was long overdue.

That picture reminds me of when...

I was fortunate enough to catch a Copa Libertadores match on TV while in Guanajuato. The hotel bars set up TV's everywhere and it was standing room only outside. The atmosphere was electric! I will never forget the roar of the crowd when Cruz Azul scored against the Argentian team.

I took a tour of the place.

To be quite honest I do not like the architecture of the theater. Reason being, there are so many opposing styles incorporated into its architecture, I got the sense that the designers weren't quite sure exactly what they wanted it to appear like before hand. It is not for lack of effort though.

As for the rest of Guanajuato...I feel in love with the city. One of the most beautiful places on earth I have ever been to.

Then don't forget to visit the Callejon de Besos.

I would post a picture of the Callejon if I could find one. Maybe someone else can post one.

Once there, you can pay a person to tell you the significance of the place.

Also don't forget to visit the Alhondiga.

Enjoy your trip!

In North America, Mexico has more site considered World Heritage sites.

In Central America, Panama has the most World Heirtage sites

In the Cariebean, Cuba has the most World Heritage sites.

In South America, Brazil has the most World Heritage sites.

In all the Americas, Mexico has the most World Heritage sites.

In Mexico, Archeologist have it tough. Because prior to any type of digging or excavating, they have to make a promise to the government that they will finish the job and that they have to come up with the resources (money, etc) themselves.

There are times where the government will aide, but prior to any type of diggings that are near old sites, people have to be careful.

In Tampico, they found this old Pyramid. THey think they are Huasteco. THe pyramid is in a residential neighborhood. Just imagine for what ever reason they are constructing, and next thing you know you have a pyramid in your backyard. Every region of Mexico has a lot of history to it. And unfortunately, the SPaniards buried many sites. They couldnt destroy them. Those things were built to last. Huricanes, earthquakes, etc. and they still stand and are still aligned with reference to the sun.. And we have some shkay lands in Mexico so that really speaks volumes of thier engineering.

Just by glancing at the list, most of Mexico's sites that are considerred as World Heritage are colonial. There are a lot more pre colombian that are not on the list. And lets not forget the environment and geography Mexico has to offer. Bueatiful forrest, tropical forrest, desserts, Mountains, Volcanoes, beaches, etc. If it wasnt for natural sites, some countries wouldnt even have World Heritage sites. There is a lot that is left out in Mexico..and it is the landscape and natural sites.

RDL,

Thanks for the info on UNESCO.

I try to learn at least one new thing a day.

Im sure you will agree with me that learning is a never-ending process.
