8 straight home losses. The longest in like 10 years or something. And believe me, the Mets have had some sh!tty teams back then. I remember when I looked forward to this season. Amazing. With a $105 million payroll, you'd figure they'd at least be in contention for the Wild Card. But no, they just got swept by San Diego. Maybe LA can do it too. Oh sweet mother of god, these Mets sure do like to test my loyalty. Geez, can't wait till the Ranger season starts. Oh wait, I'll probably be kicking myself in the ass come December when the Rangers have another one of their own meltdowns. Geez Louise. . . . .

The agony will end August 30th. What a farce and a joke.

I have long said that they only thing keeping me sane as a Jets/Rangers/Knicks and now Metro fan is that I've been rooting for the Yankees since I was 3. If I had to be a Met fan too, I think I'd have offed myself a long time ago.

How a team in this market, with this much money and with that many players can continue to screw up so badly is beyond me. Maybe Wilpon being the sole owner will change their luck, but I doubt it. They are just a brutal team to follow. They had what could have been the team of the decade in the 80s, but managed to only win 1 title (1986)- albeit in miraculous fashion- thanks to drugs, stupid player moves (Kevin MacReynolds, anyone?) and ego. They wallow through the 90s losing year after year, only to finally make it back to the series in 2000, just to lose to the team that every Met fan hates more than anything, the Yankees. I quite honestly don't know how you guys do it. Listening to Joe Benigno at night on WFAN- my heart goes out to you guys. You don't need my pity and I still dislike the Mets, but you can't help but feel bad being near something like that. Another year down the toilet in Flushing.

I don't need a Yankee fans pity but thanks anyway. It sucks being second place to the Yanks no matter what the Mets accomplish. But yeah, you're right. My heart bleeds with Beningo since we both like the Mets and Rangers. It's just something I never saw coming. At least last season, no one really expected the Mets to put up a fight. They had no offense to carry them through most of the year and fell way behind. But then that little bit of Mets Magic came where they put up something and made us fans realize the season is not lost. It was exciting baseball too. I mean, one of the most memorable games to me might be Sept. 21, 2001 when baseball returned to New York for the first time since 9/11. It was meaningful enough to me that baseball was back, but to actually be in a pennant race and to be playing the Braves, it couldn't get much more intense. Then down by a run, Piazza launches a homer that made me feel all tingly inside. Of course, they self destructed late in the season (Benitez is F*ing terrible, get him out NOW!) but the late run they put up was worth it. But looking at this season with so much hope, it's all for ************. The Gold Glove defense ended up being terrible, no one was hitting the damn ball, and the starting pitching that was supposed to be comparable to that of the Texas Rangers was the one thing that kept us from being. . . . well, the Texas Rangers. So after Mo's bat comes alive and the Mets start mustering some offense, they manage to put up a 5 game win streak and new hopes of clinching a Wild Card. Now here we are, Mets have lost 9 home games in a row and almost no chance of the post season. I almost don't want them to put up another fight like last season because I don't want my heart to be broken in similar Armando Benitez meltdown fashion again.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was talking about. I remember that Met game (though I wasn't watching it), but they showed clips of that and it seemed like the entire stadium was crying- when they weren't going nuts. Only the Mets would fall 10 games back, make a furious comeback just to blow it late in the season. Remember that 3 way wild card race they had sewn up until they couldn't beat the Marlins and Expos in the final week of the season? Same sh!t, different season. Other teams just fold into obscurity at the end of the season to finish in 3rd place. The Mets start by being 15 games out, playing .750 ball for a month, then choke when they have sapped every last ounce of hope out of you. Just a brutal team to follow. If you have kids, do the right thing. Make them soccer fans.

Ny loyalty runs deep so my little runts will bleed Mets orange and blue, or I will give them up to an orphanage.

Geez this team is terrible. Odalis Perez almost throws a perfect game. Amazing. And tonight is Mets 40th Anniversary Celebration Night. Absolutely fan-F*in-tastic. At least if they strike my misery will end. That and the Yanks and Braves won't get a chance to go to the Fall Classic. Ooops, I jinxed it. F me.

Tonight's game was just funny. I was listening on the radio on the way back from the Metro game.

Odd that the Mets had a throwback night with former stars. I think the last thing this team needs right now is more Has Been-s in Mets Uniforms. (ouch).

Piazza again with a homer- a 455 foot moonshot- and the rest of the team with nu-thin. You are right. Strike now, do the fans a favor. At the game, fans actually yelled for the mets to go on strike. How does Valentine still have a job? He and Zambrano need to commit double suicide.

And the best news, with a win by Florida earlier in the day, the Mets are now in sole possession of last place, a phat 21.5 games out of first place and 6 under .500. You are only 2 games out of second place though, so hopefully last place won't last for long. I can't see how Phillips and/or Valentine survive the season with a 100 million dollar payroll and a last place team.

Well, I'd rather have Phillips than Valentine. You can't blame the moves Phillips made. In the offseason, they looked genious. I mean, he practically stole Alomar away from Cleveland for an outfielder who did nothing as a Met, a prospect who blew out his knee early and won't play a game this year, and a surprising reliever but who was definitely expendable. The Mo Vaughn signing was a tough issue but he definitely turned it around. Cedeno shined in 99 and had his best season as a Met. He signed for less money but somehow he turned into a nothing. D'Amico who shined early in the season. Astacio who has been the most consistent starter till of late. Estes is sh!t. And Burnitz surprisingly is mega sh!t. But at the time the last two sounded pretty good. Especially the Burnitz one since Juan Gonzalez dissed the Mets completely. So many were saying Phillips was genius after these moves. It's not his fault the team is crap.

As for Bobby V, I think he finally needs to go. Some moves were very surprising. Why keep starting Ty Wiggington over a veteran like John Valentin? Why was Burnitz starting all these games when he could've used either Timo or Jay Payton? A lot of his moves were questionable. However, I'm sure he'll always have a place in Mets fans hearts for bringing the Amazins to the Fall Classic and for that little incognito move with the fake mustache.

Dodgers 2
Mets 1

And the bleeding continues. 8th in a row, 11th straight at home. Of course I was mercifully still sleeping by the time the game ended.

The Dodgers were irate to hear that Bobby Valentine said Odalis Perez, who retired the first 19 Mets he faced Saturday, had been tipping his pitches. "I'd like to keep tipping my pitches and throw the same game I did last night," Perez told reporters. "Even if I was tipping my pitches, they couldn't hit it."

And he wonders why people dislike him-sooo typical Bobby V. His team is in dead last and he pops-offs with a remark like this.

Nah, he doesn't wonder about it. He knows people don't like him. The best thing about it though is that he doesn't care. But yeah, it's not a surprise when he does stuff like this.

So the Mets have lost 13 in a row at Shea. This has set an NL record for home losses in a month or something like that. Wow, maybe the Mets should just go on strike.

apparently, they already have.

It's not all his fault, but I really fail to see how Valentine can keep his job beyond the end of this season.

I feel a little bad for Steve Phillips, he had the most active and seemingly successful off season I can ever remember a GM having. Until the season started, that is. Mets just have to forget this year ever happened and start again in February.

Well, 14 in a row. Wow, and I thought the 90's were bad. At least then, no one really expected us to be contenders. This year it's just plain sad. As for Phillips and Valentine, Wilpon seems to have a lot of confidence in them. I can understand. You have a whole bunch of high priced (over priced) talent and they can't manage to put together a winning season. Phillips really was genius in the offseason. It's not his fault the team can't come together. As for valentine, I think it's time to let him go. I love Bobby V but I think it's time for a change. I've already given up on this season. I'm just focusing on getting my Rangers opening night tickets. Then I can increase my chances of a heart attack watching them. Fun fun fun.

Yeah, the Rangers are definitely giving the mets a run for their money in the overspend and miss the playoffs market. I am surprised how crap they've been the last 5 years. Messier needs to retire like yesterday. At least they let Berard go. Can't wait to see if this year's over priced veteran free agent has beens work out better than last years over priced veteran free agent has beens.

On the Mets, as Warner Wolf would say, you can turn your sets off now.
