Size. I'm with you though, in that I suspect we both think that Parkhurst is getting a bit of the shaft. Parkhurst is one of the smartest players I've seen out there. the problem is that THAT advantage of Subotic is lost in the fact that Subotic has that something that you can't teach ........ size. Being as young as he is, I suspect that even if Subotic never becomes that quintessential thinking man like Parkhurst, he will get close enough to it that his superior physical attributes will make him the better player overall, fairly easily.

I think Subotic is a pretty damn good prospect. It's not just anyone who can win a starting job at Dortmund (even a weakened Dortmund as it is these days), but I also think people are overrating him blindly due to his club.

He's faster, but not by a lot. It's not a significant advantage IMO. Parkhurst has shown that he can cover ground as needed during the Olympics. It's not easy to shut down Babel and he, along with Edu, did so. Subotic is listed at around 6'4". Parkhurst is listed at 5'11". 5 inches is a whole lot at this level for a defender. I accept that size isn't everything, but generally in the back (just like for keepers), it means something.

Wait, Parkhurst is only 5'11? He looks taller than he is. I thought he was like 6-2

What does Subotic bring that Parkhurst doesn't?

Size and speed,

What does Subotic bring that Parkhurst doesn't?

Youth (world class potential), size, speed, and scoring goals on corner kicks and set pieces (3 goals in 7 Bundesliga games so far).

Size and speed,

Scoring ability as well. Parkhurst and Subotic don't even compare. That's not a slight on Parkhurst. Subtoic, seriously, no bones about it, has the potential to be world class. I don't spit out those words too often as a maybe 20-25 players fit into the category. Whether he pans out is anyone's guess but what I've seen this season the kid is well above the curve given his age. He plays like a seasoned vet and that impressive considering the players he faces in the Bundesliga.

I thought I read somewhere (this thread?) that Neven exchanged jersey with Dolo after a league match?

That's a good sign.

Maybe LD will get his butt to Germany and convince him before the end of the year.

Look at the way the DFB was jumping through all those hoops trying to get him German elligibility.

You think they'd do that for just anyone?

And a huge result for Serbia tonight, as they get a 1-3 away win in Austria.

I'm just saying - I don't think he's simply slot in next to Gooch without a good fight from the other centerbacks we have. I think Parkhurst, if given a shot, would give him a real run for his money.

There's an interesting phrase for you. I wonder if Tenet used that phrase when briefing Bush on weapons of mass destruction. Well he favored the more colorful "slam dunk." Or if the head of risk management used any such language when discussing the mortgage market with the CEO of Lehman, Merrill Lynch, AIG, Wachovia, Bear Stearns, etc.

what has your comment to to with american soccer and Subotic?
nothing:)

that risk management did not work in some americanks we know..but it has nothing to do with soccer.....everyone wanted just to earn with investment banking...no one could predict this crisis...but back to soccer..

but many people here are not familiar with banking discussion..they want to discuss soccer

P.S sometimes I think you are pretty bored:)

Parkhurst and Marshall will be heading to Europe in the winter. Gooch will reportedly be moving to the EPL, so we'll be able to run a closer comparison.

i would suggest to open new thread and close this one..

the name of the thread is no more up-to date.

maybe you can discuss: Subotic - USMNT member?

Why? Was Subotic denied German citizenship?

Why? Was Subotic denied German citizenship?

well, he did not deny...because no one offered him German citizenship
he would be happy to get one..but he did not get!!!!

he is still not German as far I know..

and if he had been German, then he would not play for USMNT..

but Subotic is Serbian-Croatian-American...

new thread would be better...maybe Subotic for USMNT??..

people can think that he already became German.

remember..not everyone has a time to read whole thread...there are people that come here and want to get some news...

the name of the thread is definitely not right for current time!!!!

Yeah, but he reportedly is interested in playing for Germany. And the German authorities seem interested in him.

well of course he would like to play for Germany..it is better team than USA..

but as I reported before and some others..DFB probably has given him up...
i donīt think he will get German citizenship...

if Subotic really become German, than we can discuss this on German board:)

maybe you should better discuss if Subotic should become USMNT member..

DFB has probably given Subotic up...

as I said the thread is too long..

too long and too repetive:)

Well it's not just a matter of the German team being better; Subotic has stated that he feels more comfortable and happy in Europe and Germany. So this thread is just following the situation.

The problem is that Neven wasn't eligible to get a German passport at the time he played for the US U17. So first of all, the Germans must give him a German passport and then Neven can call FIFA that they make a decision - this takes up to 3 months usually.

Subotic has been waiting for a long time for German citizenship
and still has not got it.

i doubt he will get it

his parents are not German, he was not born in Germany..he was not eligible to get a
German passport when he played for US U17

he has US citizenship and he should play for USA..or Serbia..or Croatia..

how many passports does he want to have??????:)
