1. Eddie Johnson, er definitely needs more time to establish himself with Cardiff, pretty please.
2. Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Freddy Adu, Jozy Altidore ditto but for entirely different considerations and each with a different club.
3. Eddie Lewis, let's give someone else a chance, Bob.
4. Brad Guzan or TH, tme to give Marcus Hahnneman a look or even a start. Bring Guz if Hahnemann starts, leave Guz if Tim H. starts.
5. Frankie Hejduk, not that we don't like him but do we really need him in this particular match?
6. Brian Ching, let's get a look at someone else.
And Coach, lets get a look at Kenny Cooper, Charlie Davies, Danny Szetela, Robbie Rogers, Jonathan Spector if he is healthy and Marvell Wynne? Ok to bring Pablo back if you need a seasoned defenive midfielder.

1. Agreed
2. Disagreed, we need to get these players integrated more heavily (except Bradley, I would keep bringing him in just not play him 90 minutes every game).
3. Agreed, I would really like to see Rogers, Mapp, C. Clark, and White all over Lewis, Lewis is a decent players but not going to be a part of 2010.
4. Disagreed, Hahemann is getting up there in age, I would rather start Guzan or Howard and maybe bring in some other goalies like Busch, Reis, Seitz, Hesmer, etc.
5. Tough call, I still think Hejduk is the best option at RB for us and even though he is getting up there in age I think he could still be around for the World Cup, he could be an excellent backup option at either fullback.
6. AGREE!!!! Time for Altidore, Adu, Davies, and Cooper to get their long over due chances.
Cooper- Yes
Davies- Yes
Szetela- Yes
Rogers- Yes
Spector- If he is healthy then Yes.
Wynne- Yes
Mastroeni- No, if you do want Edu and Bradley staying with their clubs I would rather have Clark.

[post]I agree with most of this, but I'd also be fine with other choices.
2. Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Freddy Adu, Jozy Altidore ditto but for entirely different considerations and each with a different club.
I've advocated this elsewhere. I think it's a mistake to think that not calling up a player proves that Bradley isn't planning to integrate that player into the team as the WC draws closer. If the players' careers at their clubs will benefit from extra time with those teams, then (at this point in both the European seasons and the WCQ) the NT is better off letting them stay in Europe. But it's a complicated call, so I also wouldn't freak out if Bob brought in some or all of them. Or if he brought some or all of them in for only one of the two games.
3. Eddie Lewis, let's give someone else a chance, Bob.
Agreed, as a nats and a Galaxy fan. And I'd like to see Donovan sent back to the Galaxy if the nats beat Cuba.
4. Brad Guzan or TH, tme to give Marcus Hahnneman a look or even a start. Bring Guz if Hahnemann starts, leave Guz if Tim H. starts.
Maybe. But at this point I'd rather see Seitz or Reis than Hahnemann as the back-up, especially if Howard were to start.
5. Frankie Hejduk, not that we don't like him but do we really need him in this particular match? I'd rather call up Frankie for Cuba and, if we win, send him home after that. I prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to defenders.
6. Brian Ching, let's get a look at someone else.
I wouldn't object iif Bradley were to leave Ching in Houston, but I'd also be okay with bringing him along too.
And Coach, lets get a look at Kenny Cooper, Charlie Davies, Danny Szetela, Robbie Rogers, Jonathan Spector if he is healthy and Marvell Wynne? Ok to bring Pablo back if you need a seasoned defenive midfielder.
Sounds good to me. I'd be delighted to see these guys in camp and the squad for at least one of the games.

Don't see it happening until the November WCQ. I don't think BB is going to have the core guys absent from NT play from October to February of '09.
We might see a few new faces for these next two WCQs, but not too many IMO.

I agree with the points behind the opening thread.
I also agree with Grumpy in LA's minor comments and tweeks.
Based on all this, the following lineup, that has most of the current core plus several newer players, should have no trouble beating Cuba by multiple goals and clinching the next round:
------------Cooper----Donovan----------
Beasley-----Kljestan---Clark-----Dempsey
Pearce-------Boca---Onyewu----Spector
------------------Guzan-----------------
Key subs, three of whom play: Davies, Holden, Rogers, Wynne, Parkhurst.

Dear Mr. Bradley,
I have restrained from criticizing you on these boards in the last few months and in light of that I ask a personal favor. Please leave Landon Donovan and Eddie Lewis at home so the Galaxy can have at least a little chance of making the playoffs. In any case, you need to see how the team runs without Donovan (and dude, really, Eddie Lewis?)
Your friend (or at least what passes for one around here),

I would not bring in Spector if he gets healthy. Both him and Simek need to get back to their clubs and get fit (which they aren't) and get their starting jobs back.
Spector shouldn't be with the US team until the hex.

Yes on Cooper.
I'd like to see more of Guzan between the sticks too.
Adu and Altidore aren't getting much PT with their clubs.
I want to see them as well.
And someone for Beasley also.
Rogers would do.

Hahnemann is 36. No thanks. Even without Howard or Guzan there are still plenty of other keepers. Seitz, Reis, Busch, Cannon. Even Hesmer and Cervi, as at least they'll be usable at the World Cup. Sure Hahnemann could be there in 2010, but at 38 and never really too impressive of a keeper in the first place, we should look elsewhere.
No disrespect to him, but I think it's nearer time to forget about him than it is to give him looks/starts.

I think Hahnemann will be the third GK come 2010, unless one of the younger guys really steps it up a few notches.

some of the players you mentioned may get a look, but make no mistake about it, mb will be in every wc qualifier for 90 minutes. bb sees the usmnt/ussf as the opportunity to vault mb to stardom and guarantee he gets 80% of the glory. even if his son was in a wheelchair, he would get the start.

Clark was included in the last 18. It is probably a good idea to have a seasoned option at this position, particularly if Mike Bradley stays in Germany.

Excellent points each. I have enjoyed everyone's thoughts so far on this particular thread.

Here are my thoughts about Hahnemann. Sure he is 36 will be 38 in '10. We will have three goalkeepers on the roster then. Keepers have played well in Europe and even the WC until they are 40, Friedel is 38 now. Marcus played in the English Premier League last season as a starter, one of 5-6 Americans ever to do that. When Reading was relegated he made a plea to see if anyone wanted him as a starter. If something happened to Tim, god forbid, I would much prefer his experience back there. I believe the players would be more comfortable having an old head back there who has been though the wars than someone who has never played/started at a high level. Just mho.

Have we already qualified?
Other than that, some decent suggestions?

1) Agreed - why a player who cannot get into the starting lineup of a midtable 2nd division side starts for his country ahead of those playing for top sides in La Liga, Portugal and France is just beyond me.
2) Disagree - Edu, Adu + Altidore are by no means being overplayed at their respective clubs and need all the international experience they can get as well as full time match experience at this stage of their careers. MB on the other hand could use the time.
3) Agree
4) Disagree... Hanhneman is how old now, 57? Your having a laugh. Guzan + Howard are the future of that position and should always be included from this point on. Give Guzan a goal in goal.
5) Disagree Heydude is versatile and experienced and it's not like we've already 100% guaranteed qualification.
6) Agree.. see post 1

usa can qualify versus cuba, making the t&t match the chance for adu, altidore, others like the barbados AWAY grouping...
you do the business first with the A group...
then release them back after they do the job...
the kiddies and B teamers do t&t...
it's an international date, and mls is foolish enough to schedule matches on those dates...too bad....
hey i'm all for the next coming level of talent going to t&t...
not a tough road venue, but still a road venue, and it'd be a competitve match...
1-0 at barbados...
i'd say the 2nd team drawing at t&t might be expectation....
and it does hurt guatemala in the fight for the hex
