And here is a response,

Even though this might be better off in the soccer bashers thread, it should deserve one of their own.

This was an amusing over-reaction. The writer who called the original writer Archie Bunker was dead on. The other responder, who equated the presence of soccer in this country the fault of elements who also wish to take away Christmas, was a little low.

Hmmm.... I thought this thread was about Bin Laden being a noted Arsenal supporter.

Funny enough, so is Michael Moore.

Mods-This should be switched to the sticky soccer-basher thread.

The concept of what is and is not an "American" sport is one of the issues soccer bashers use. They often compare soccer to native American sports like gridball and boresball, regardless of the nationalities of those playing.

This attachment to "Americanism" has been getting more noticable. Baseball has gone to "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch, yet when the cameras scan the players, what you see are a lot of players who were not born in the US and whose citizenship status is not discussed. Yet baseball has the nerve to call it the "World" Series. Would they do the Canadian national anthem during the 7th inning stretch if Toronto or Montreal were playing?

Besides the soccer-basher thread, this thread already exists in the MLS Forum.

That's enough of a reason to kill it.
