This is a thread for those remakes of "classic" movies that you considered passable or even genuinely enjoyed.

The only one out of the whole horror-movie-remake fad I enjoyed.

I saw La Totale before I saw True Lies and I remember thinking that the pitch was great, but the execution of the original was poor.

I liked the second Invasion of the Body Snatchers better than the original. I won't see the third one...

Bump.
Perhaps we can add remakes we'd like to see happen? La Totale/True Lies is a good example. The French version lacked the funds to do their idea justice. I'm sure we can think of other examples where the execution did not meet the concept's full potential.

I found the remake of "The Italian Job" with Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Edward Norton to be quite entertaining, and not a bad complement to the Michael Caine original.

Oceans 11. The original brat pack version is just plain bad. The Clooney version is a blast.

LOL, I clicked on the thread to post about this movie as well !!
True Lies must be the best remake a director can dream for his original idea even if the "social" aspect gets a bit lost in Cameron's film. "La Totale" was after all your everyday French social/family comedy.

I especially like the inclusion of Faye Dunaway in the remake. The latter is just fun, especially the way Dennis Leary and Frankie Faison play the detectives assigned to the case.

I liked the Manchurian Candidate re-make. Although, it's hard to replace a Frank Sinatra karate fight.

Most recently - does State of Play count as a remake? I enjoyed that.
A comprehensive list for me, I think:
Casino Royale - if it counts.

The Manchurian Candidate
An Affair to Remember
Charlotte's Web
Heat
The Magnificent Seven

My Fair Lady isn't a remake, it's a musicalization of a play.

To me, it's more of a musical remake of the original film. We're splitting hairs though.

Gack! How did I forget this one? It is one of my all-time favorite films. Beatty is great, and of course Jack Warren. The rest of the supporting cast (esp. Charles Grodin and Dyan Cannon) are terrific, and my goodness, is Julie Christie beautiful.
