So it was kind of fun to have a former NFL quarterback try to fly beneath the radar, no longer in his prime but still relatively athletic, in Guatemala.
Gabon has one of the fastest women in the world circa 2004, when she won a gold medal in Athens.
In Vanuatu an older lady named Scout was incapable of doing anything but made it to the final three.
Gabon has a lady who looks remarkably similar but who actually has some physical chops even at age 61.
Every season has morons.
Gabon has Ace, who bugs me and I've never heard him utter a word.
But the best news: Probst won't share hosting duties with four other people and muck up the whole show!
Gabon starts Thursday the 25th.

The previews I've seen has probst saying that it's a real good/evil season. Lots of people to root for and against. Of course, it's hard to buy the hype but I'm soooo glad to have this show back, AND in HD! Woot!

Here's three quotes from contestants to get a flavor of the season:
Danny: "Any way I can get in there to get that million, I'm trying ..."
Susie Smith: "I certainly don't plan on apologizing every time I screw up"
Bob Crowley: "I'm not playing the game, I'm here to have a good time"
Bob is going to get his ass handed to him. And, Bob ... why are you on a GAME SHOW if you don't want to play the game? I don't want to watch your vacation. Poo or get off the pot, you know?
Quote from Probst:
“This season, the idols get played in a way they’ve never been played before,” he reveals. “It astounded me what happened this time. This has never happened. It’s that power of the idol that confuses everybody. Nobody’s quite sure how to handle it. It gets to a point where it’s almost too much power and it does you in. I find that fascinating. This is the one thing that can keep you safe in the game and yet – if you’re not careful – it’s the thing that will get you voted out the fastest.”

Our office pool has begun.
I chose Ken, the professional video-gamer. I am doomed.

Professional videogamer? The ever popular "barista" and "mechanical bull operator" must have already been taken!

I have Dan, but we do a random draw (it gets more people involved since you don't have to know anything). i don't like my chances.

I'm pretty bummed about the TV schedule tonight. I want to record all of Survivor. However, The Office premier is airing during the 2nd hour as well as some chick show that Mrs. Crimson Ace wants to record - I think it might be Grey's Anatomy or something. My DVR can't record/watch three shows at once.
It looks like I'll miss the 2nd hour of the Survivor premier. :(

It will be available on demand.
Great to see it in HD. Interesting start. I still don't understand why you would walk into the bush wearing a suit and tie. Why wouldn't you change into more appropriate gear. The sprinter sure has lost it in four years. Making excuses about her heavy shoes? You've got to be kidding. She had running shoes on. Obvious choices made in the two people voted off. Gillian, too old, too slow and though she was correct to call out GC, you make waves early you always get singled out. GC is a jerk off.

My DVR only caught up to tribal council of the first hour. So just to confirm... did Gillian and GC get voted off?
Was there anything worth noting in the 2nd hour that I might have missed?

I didn't catch anything in the second hour either. I moved on to the office.

michelle was voted off in the first hour and gillian was voted off in the 2nd hour. GC was immune for the first tribal council.

There goes the professional gamer's shot at scoring a hottie. Oh well.
I'm talking about Michelle, not the old woman.

I thought voting off Michelle was a huge mistake, ya she's obnoxious and annoying, which makes her an easy target any vote. But she was atheletic, she was one of the first people up the hill on the first challenge and was right in there working hard on the second. They royally got their butt kicked in both physical challenges, so ya, lets vote off the one girl on the team who seems to be able to do physical things!
Voting off Gillian was the right thing to do, after that there are a couple of slackers to easily pick off. You HAVE TO get a team that can compete, they went for "nice friendly team" first.
The leadership thing was funny, Jeff sure set CG up railroading him into "leader". Leaders aren't picked, they happen. The guy with the stiches in his head might make a good one, but he's just sitting quiet for now, which is a good move.
The other team with the "onion" alliance, they haven't shown much there.

Great to see it in HD. Interesting start. I still don't understand why you would walk into the bush wearing a suit and tie. Why wouldn't you change into more appropriate gear.Obviously the producers did what they do about every other season. Have the contestants thinking they're doing a pre-game photo-shoot, and then suddenly tell them "Game on." Only this time they didn't put that part in the episode. Last time they did this was China. About halfway through everybody's clothes got really ratty, and suddenly they all had their regular swimsuits and new clothes.
As far as street-clothes outfits to be wearing while suddenly getting stuck on Survivor, a suit and tie would be among the better options. At least you have a lot of material. You probably have both a shirt and an undershirt, you can cut off the pants to make shorts, you can use the jacket to keep warm at night, and somebody creative could probably find a use for the tie and the cut-off material from the pants.
The lesson everyone should know by now is that from the moment you show up as a Survivor contestant, whether the game has started or not, always wear sensible underwear.

It's just ridiculous. Be dressed to compete from the moment you get onto the plane to Gabon. They always do the same thing. This should not be a surprise to anyone.

First, this looked AMAZING in HD.
Second, there's two things that I never understand about survivor:
1) why do they always send the strong person to exile island? Why give the strong players even more power by giving them the II? on those occassions when the person on exile island gets to miss TC, you send the weak person so that they have to vote off a strong player. The strong players (Yul, Ozzy) always get the II. Especially this year where the weak person may choose to not even look for the idol ... you gotta figure that as they get more clues, they'll also have more food to tempt them. I know Dan hinted at this strategy this week but I hope somebody actually follows it.
2) near the end when a person wins and can take two people on a trip ... why don't they pre-determine amongst themselves who's going so that nobody has hurt feelings and tears up the alliance? that always bites people in the ass. why can't they sit there and say 'if I win, I'll take you; if you win, you take him; etc...'. You know what they say ... keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Take an enemy sometime so you're not leaving the fourth person of your four-man alliance, with their hurt feelings, to be lobbied by the two outsiders.
these people always seems to make things tougher for themselves.
I love how probst is tired of dealing with people and let's them know.
the old guy -- bowtie -- he's got a little Yau-Man in him.
Good start ... looks like we could have a good season on our hands.
