Argentina and Brazil: The times i have eaten at those restaurants, i have always ordered their meats. Just different textures, flavors. pretty good. I hear they have good pastries and sweets.. but I lost my sweet tooth. I dont have it like I use to and I rarely ever order a desert after the meal

Colombia: empanizadas. i ate a pretty good one filled with potatoes. little different from the ones I am use to in mexico, but still good none the less. When i use to see this colombian girl, she took me to this colombian restarant. dont remember the name of it.. but we started off with empanizadas. the the entree was white rice, sliced beef, pork rinds, suateed bananas, and beans. She got mad at me because i mixed up the white rice with the beans. She said this wasnt Mexican food. But the pork rinds were great. I dont like suateed nor caramalized bananas.. or any type of fruit like that. Been told that Colombian, Venezuelan, and Ecuadorian food kind of resemble each other and dont differ from one another that much. Cant say i have ever been to an Ecuadorian or Venezuelan restaurant here or in Mexico. So i dont know, but this comes from people who are fromt those cuntries.

Carribean: I tried Dominican, Cuban, and Puerto Rican food. Cant say I am a huge of fan on either of them. The textures and the flavors just didnt go to well with each other IMO. But, every one different tastebuds they like to please

Peru: I ate this roast beef type with suateed onions. Forgot the name of it. not bad, but easy on the salt. The 3 times i have eaten it, 2 times were salty as hell. THe last time i went, i told them to hold up on the salt

The pork rinds are chicaron and the suateed bananas were platanos.

I also love arroz con pollo. Though I tend to stay away from the mondongo.

Argies have the best steaks and chorizos.

Brazilian meats are great. There is a chain called Fogo de Chao (Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta...that's it) that is a Brazilian steakhouse. They have every meat available and they bring skewers upon skewers on to your table. A must go if you're in one of those cities. Has anybody else been there?

I also have been to a Colombian Restaurant. It's called Las Tablas. It was also fantastic. They had the steak thin and cooked well done. I like it thin like that. A lot of garlic was used, which I like. Also a must.

did you mean to say chicharron? or is that how they say it in Colombia? We too call them platanos.

maybe its just me, but Argie food is a lot like Italian. Which is not a bad thing to say because I like italian food. but sometimes they try to put too much suaces on thier entrees. IMO, a steak should be good and tasty right out of the broiler without adding more stuff to it.

They do have good chorizo. But since my a lot of my family lives in Toluca, i kind of think the best comes from there. You can all types of chorizo. Spicy, sweet, etc.

Pupusas are good (El Salvador) I like the masa with corn best, but my brother likes it with rice.

Nacatamales (Nicaragua) are also a family fave. They're wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn husks, are much bigger than the Mexican tamal, and have a potato/rice base.

I also love Puerto Rican food, especially rellenos de papas and arroz con gandules. Some flavors are a little weird, though. I pass up their pasteles and quimbombo every time.

A lot of the Caribbean island cultures mix their fruits with meats, making a sweet and savory combination that I personally enjoy. Costa Rica's gallo pinto mixes rice and beans, so it's not just a Mexican thing.

Venezuelan food - those arapas are addictive. I went through withdrawal after I left the country.

But no one does carne asado beef like Argentina. Theirs is absolutely the best I've had. Very simple, yet strong flavors.

Brazil makes a better barbecued pork, though.

Cuba makes delicious seafood - I love the way they combine mango with a lot of their fish.

Now I'm hungry.

I forgot about El Salvador's pupusas. There is a Mexican/Salvadorn restaurant here in Houston. Not bad. I just had it with cheese inside. They tasted alot like the gorditad that i was accustomed to as a kid, but with the stuff inside rather than outside.

Well, maybe one of the reasons I dont like Carriebean food is because I dont like seafood. I detest seafood. I get nautious just thinking about it. but its the fruits and and meats that i dont care for.

tamale are also wrapped in banana leaves in mexico. In fact, i always ate them like that as a kid. places like Tampico, Veracruz, and the pacific, you will see tamales wrapped in banana ppeels. In the the central regions where you see more of the corn husk

They have one in Houston? Good isn't it?

There is also one in Puerto Vallarta. Hell of a lot cheaper than Fogo. I believe that it's called Brasil and it is right on the beach.

its good.

Well, the US is like a Latin Country as well...

so... aside from Cabrito which is my favorite.. nothing like a young lamb that is nutured the whole time with its mothers milk... then cut very fine.. that meat just melts in your mouth the second it it enters your mouth,,

but, aside from that... my favorite meat aside from cabrito is Texas BBQ (the ribs)

If you're ever in Chicago and want some Gorditas, head to Carniceria Aguascalientes on 26th street.

It's a grocery store with a restaurant inside. They make the best Gorditas in the U.S.

Puerco con chile verde, Chicarron, Lengua, Carne Asada, Queso con rajas........you name it, they have it.

Salvadorean food is my favorite food right after Mexican. Theres a Salvadorean restaurant near my apartment that makes some good breakfst. They make some Black refried beans with sourcream and cooked bannanas. They also have a caldo called 'Gallina India' some good stuff. Lets not forget about las Popusas de chicharron and queso with Repollo.
