Zola Zooms In On Montolivo
Gianfranco Zola was ecstatic after his West Ham defeated Newcastle 3-1 yesterday. But the pint-sized boss is already outlining January's transfer campaign along with sporting director Gianluca Nani, and Riccardo Montolivo is rumored to be his main target
The Sardinian fantasista has finally made the big leap in his coaching career by taking the London club's hot-seat earlier this month.
Before moving to the England to succeed Alan Curbishley at the helm of the Hammers, Zola had been assistant manager to Pierluigi Casiraghi in the Italian U21 set-up.
Yesterday he made his long-awaited debut at Upton Park and got off to a wonderful start with a convincing 3-1 victory over the Magpies.
David Di Michele was the hero of the day, scoring an impressive brace and feeding Matthew Etherington for the third goal.
But the Italian clan at West Ham is said to be about to grow even bigger pretty soon. According The People, the ex-Chelsea legend has set his sights on gifted Fiorentina midfielder Montolivo.
Reportedly, Nani will try and lure him to London during the winter transfer session: the Italian international has a contract with the Viola until 2012 and would command a fee of at least €15m.
The talented 23-year-old is a regular in the Fiorentina side and is hailed as Andrea Pirlo's heir to take the reins of the midfield in the Italian national team.
