We've been handed a fairly tough draw for the second round. We're meeting up with Basel from Switzerland. Basel was the highest ranked team in the unseeded pot, so, on paper, they're the toughest team for anybody to draw. However, they received alomost all of their ranking points thanks to their fantastic run last year. Hopefully they'll prove to be one-year wonders.
In the first round, Basel won the first leg at Malatyaspor of Turkey 2-0. Somehow or the other, they managed to lose the home leg 2-0, and had to rely on a "silver goal" to advance to this round.
The match in Switzerland is Nov 6, while the match at SJP will be on Nov 27.

So what do you guys think about this match-up? I personally think Basel are the slight favorites in this one...

I've no idea how good Basel is. Can you give us insight on how Basel are slight favorites? I just want to win, period.

They got the depth, individual class and eliminated Liverpool in last year's Champions League. They also beat Juventus, Celtic, Deportivo, and tied ManU and Valencia. They kept their whole team together and even increased the quality of their roster -- so all those factors make 'em the slight favorites in my eyes...
PS: Do you have to pay for Newcastle World?

Trackman, if you want to post PBP over in the other Toon-Basel thread, please feel free to do so.
This old thread is for the draw, not the match.
SwissGCZ: yes, you have to pay for Newcastle World
