If you watched the Cuba-US game, you saw the five US fans in the stands of the game. They disguised their faces to help them from getting identified by US authorities as travel to Cuba by US citizens is illegal except under very restricted circumstances. Here's what they looked like:

What you say we get a movement to dress up like them for the US leg of the game? BS poster Taly suggested it and I think it's great idea. Those bandanas are cheap and you can buy a dozen for $4.00 (minimum order $100) here:

Flag Bandanas (http://www.wholesalecentral.com/accessoriespalace/Store.cfm?event=itemdetail&itemid=776265&returnto=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ewholesalecentral%2Ecom%2Faccessoriespalace%2FStore%2Ecfm%3Fevent%3Dshowcatalog%26catid%3D13618)

Anybody else up for doing this?

If I can get enough interest in the bandanas, I'd order a $100 worth and collect at the supporters gathering on Friday or the tailgate Saturday.

Ok. Cool. I retract my offer to buy $100 bucks worth. But that price was $4 per dozen.

Yes, AO will have bandanas at the tailgate ... look for me, and if you don't know me, look for the guy with the big white flag with the World Cup trophy and the slogan, "Give Proof This Night." Suggested donation: TBD, but it'll be the same as at other tailgates.

I and my fellow DFW AO stand-ins will be tailgating with the SE.

Alrighty. I'll be handing out a special dessert to tailgate attendees. And streamers. We really ought to try to repeat the streamer throw.

"Give Proof This Night?"

Yeah, borrowed from the national anthem ...

And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there

The idea being, give proof this night that our Yanks are still there, playing to win the whole goddam frickin' thing.

I have other designs for This Banner Yet Waves, Proudly We Hail, and Still There, but I need some help with graphics files ... and some money.

Remember back in the day when we used register tape (which we now know hurts like hell if you get clocked in the head :p).

Just my $0.02...

That look by the "Cuba Cinco" is their look to protect themselves from prosecution from the U.S. Government. I have no reason to hide my face in RFK. Let that look be their legacy.

But what better way to honor their legacy than to... continue said legacy?

When ppl ask about what's up w/ the masks, the story gets told and retold and the Cuba Cinco legacy will flourish. :)

Exactly. You know the old saying - "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

And it does look pretty bad ass.

Phuq yeah! I would love to see opposition fans try to throw beer and debris at an American supporter who is dressed bad ass (shades and bandana).

AO,

Good job for starting the look.

NancyB,

Thanks for starting the thread!

to add to that coin, how much legacy does us soccer really have?

there's not that much to hang our hats on in terms of tradition... our jerseys change every 2 years to something completely different, we're not known for a particular style... basically, everyone knows us as a bunch of athletes who work hard and have good goalkeepers.

repping something like this would just add a little piece of flair with an actual story of passionate fandom behind it... i love it.
