Ok this is a mock World Cup bid for the U.S. I have game times at 1, 4, and 9p.m. est. Here's why, the 1 and 4 game times would be essential for european markets. the 9 time slot would be great for the americas markets and well as east asian and australian markets because games would then actually be played when people are awake in those countries. No game is before noon local time. In my bid no venue is used in consecutive days. No team plays in the same venue more than once in group play. For round of 16 games every team would have to travel, but winners of the group would not have to travel outside it's group stage region. There are two regions. The east and the west. Here's what my mock world cup and schedule look like. I have selected 12 stadiums. I think it's possible we may be able to convince FIFA into letting us use 15 venues as this would reduce travel and give more cities a chance to host games. My 3 alternate stadiums are: Charlotte, North Carolina (Bank of America Stadium) Nashville, Tennessee (LP Field) and Denver, Colorado (Invesco Field) For times I listed all times using eastern standard time.

* If this date fell on July 4th I would switch this game time to 1p.m. Giving European a greater viewership and since it's a holiday in America it wouldn't interfere with the normal American workweek. Thus the reason weekday knockout round games are at 4p.m. and 9p.m. instead of 1p.m. and 4p.m. like the weekend.

Okay here is my mock World Cup bid for England. I chose 10 stadiums. 8 of which currently uphold to FIFA standards and the other two have to make minor renovations to reach capacity of 40K. All game times are listed thourgh local time which is GMT. I would have liked to chose the City of Manchester Stadium, but FIFA rules prevent countries to have two different cities with two stadiums. No stadium is used on consecutive days and London will not have no more than one match per day. Also no team will play twice in the same venue during the group stage. Also no team will play in the same venue in consecutive games this includes going from the group stage to the round of 16, to the quarterfinals, etc.
* Stadium Under 40K capacity and must be upgraded.

No love for Northern California. The Bay Area deserved to be in the mix. It is a bigger market than Arizona, Washington, Indiana , Pennsylvania etc.

I would put the Bay Area up in a heartbeat. But the lack of a stadium equipped for holding FIFA World Cup matches and no plans to build one in the future made me shy away from that area in the mock bid I can up with.

Possible Australian Stadiums
ANZ Stadium (Sydney)
Sydney Football Stadium (Sydney)
Melbourne Cricket Ground (Melbourne)
Telstra Dome (Melbourne)
Suncorp Stadium (Brisbane)
Perth Stadium (Perth) ***
Bruce Stadium (Canberra)*
Hindmarsh Stadium (Adelaide)**
Dairy Farmers Stadium (Townsville)*
Marathon Stadum (Newcastle)*
Skilled Stadium (Gold Coast)*
Bluetongue Stadium (Gosford)*
* Capacity Upgrade needed
** Capacity upgrade or new stadium needed
*** New Stadium in advanced planning stage
I know I've used two Stadiums for both Sydney and Melbourne but both cities have large populations (4M+) and good infrastructure and should have no problems coping with the extra crowds. MCG is the completely oval ground. Telstra Dome and the Perth Stadium will configure close to rectangular for football, and ANZ stadium is completely convertable from oval to rectangular. Its likely that the final will be at ANZ and the opening match at the MCG (although Melbourne residents will violently disagree as they are very parochial - even worse than Scotsmen)

Almango thanks I really do appreciate it. I've been looking into stadiums more for an Iberian, Benelux, and Russian bid. I plan on looking into Australia, China, Japan, Mexico, and Canada today. But thanks for the info now I have a general idea of what I'm looking at.

If the USA gets the right to host, the Bay Area will at least upgrade the Stanford stadium. I will try to do China in a few minutes.

I just took a quick look at China and they have about 15 stadiums that could host world cup matches with just a few minor upgrades.

The reduction in capacity was a strategic decision by Stanford's Athletics Program to boost season ticket sales and create a more intimate playing atmosphere while sacrificing the ability to host large world-class events, such as the FIFA World Cup or NCAA Football Bowl Games in the future. This is partially the result of San Francisco's failure to secure a bid for the 2012 Olympics, which would have featured a renovated Stanford Stadium as the main Olympic Venue.

I came up with 12 stadiums. I based my selection on the soccer touranment at the Olympic 2008, the Asian Cup 2004 and the Women World Cup 2007. I added Hong Kong and Guangzhou because they are from the richest regions of China, the Pearl River Delta. Hong Kong will get a game due to the poltical situation and its strong GDP. Dalian is a hotbed for soccer and a very nice city. Most of the stadiums probably needs upgrade.
The capacity might not be for soccer matches

East Rutherford is basically New York. A lot of New Yorks major sports teams play in East Rutherford. There is no DC Stadium it's in Landover. And they will put the final on the east coast because they put it on the west coast in94, but Chicago is another possibilty for the final.

The only thing I would change from your proposal is I would have Beijing Workers Satdium instead of Chengdu giving 6 in the north and 6 in the south and giving Beijing a total of 2 venues like in a number of bids. This would increase attendance because Workers Stadium is larger and Beijing is a big enough city that it can handle it.

Okay here is my mock bid for the Iberian peninsula. I have 6 stadiums in Portugal and 6 in Spain. I would have liked to used Madrid's La Panieta but adhering to FIFA rules only one bid can have the same city having two stadiums. Through research all these upgrades to adhere to over 40k capacity and FIFA standards will all be done by 2018. All game times are used Central European Team. Portugal uses GMT, but for scheduling purposes I posted game times all in CET. Lisbon's two venues are not used on the same day ever and there is atleast one day in between games at any particular venue. Also since this is a two country bid the knockout round format and who plays is different then normal. Spain will always play in Spain unless they reach the 3rd place game and Portugal will always play in Portugal unless they reach the final. Here are the stadiums.

Dwbakke I give you huge props for doing that. I researched the Benelux bid in depth last night and realized that it's a better bid than I expected with all the plans to upgrade and expand stadiums. The only downfall to the bid is they are in Europe and competing against England and Iberian Bid is tough, but I think they will eventually get it if they don't get it for 2018 and such.

It's not a terrible bid, but I'm not sure Belgium would get to six stadiums. The Charleroi one especially is dicey. I could see six in the Netherlands and four in Belgium, or five and five.

I think your right about Belgium getting to 6 stadiums. f they can do it I like a 6 and 6, but if not the I think you'd have to go with a 5 and 5.

Here’s a mock China bid. I don’t think Hong Kong would be allowed to host games, as they are a different federation from China and would then be considered a host. So I think they and Macau would be out. I also can’t see China using two stadiums in any one city, as they have plenty of big cities to pick from. I think Xi’an would get a new stadium, as that would be a good destination for games, plus Harbin would also be a possibility for a new stadium (though I’ve only included Xi’an here). Chengdu and Qingdao would also be possible host cities. Or China could just build 12 new stadiums.
