I think we all know the answer but just for fun, imagine these scenerios:
Carlos Ruiz throws 60's something KC head coach Bob Gansler to the ground after "The Fish" flopes his way to a penalty kick in game 2 to give LA the series win
Fire supporters club, the Barnburners threaten to attack and kill fan who does not throw game ball back into play in the final seconds of extra time
Metros subs attack Gillette Staduim worker on sidelines for celebrating Revs goal

If by "the media" you mean ESPN, Fox Sports TV, etc. then the answer is "They wouldn't". Therein lies the problem.

I don't believe that for a moment. Even if you were to pretend that negative coverage of soccer isn't a knee-jerk "automatic" in the American media, ESPN and Fox rarely hesitate to show stuff, from any sport, that they can laugh at. And what's not hilarious about Ruiz throwing Gansler to the ground....?

yeah, i think you are right on that one. I will say this in defense of ESPN. We all know that they don't give the soccer fans enough coverage for our liking. However, they are at least starting to show highlights of some of the nice goals, even when they are from other countries. I know this is a small step, but we have to crawl before we can walk.

Does anybody have access to the SBJ league report on sponsors and can post it here about what the MLS says? I tried to register on the site but it costs money and I'm not willing to pay. I have only seen the rankings that the LPGA has but I couldn't find one information on the MLS. But I do know that with the LPGA, the MLS has the highest growth in all of the leagues that the SBJ asked sponsors about.
