Anyone catch it last night. It was kind of interesting. I think I'll watch the first season.
Anna Paquin was very good, even though her motivation in befriending or becoming romantically involved with a vampire seems weird.

Saw it and liked it as well and will plan on watching it.
I think her motivation is that she isn't human. She can hear people's thoughts. My guess is that is going to be tied together into why she was drawn to him, the only person whose thoughts she can't hear.

This is my new favorite show, admittedly I don't watch a lot of television anymore but the combination of pop culture sensibilities are intriguing enough. Typical first episode, there was an attempt to squeeze all that the show is about into the one hour. The first ten minutes might have been misleading as this will be more of a character-driven show than any action show but that's the writer's decision and hbo wanted to reel in as many viewers as possible.
I'm very curious where this will go. Also, the two minute credit intro is the greatest of any show I've seen aside from Dexter.

I liked it.
I think it would be funny if the vampire turns out to be a total puss.
I don't think her brother killed that woman, they would have been a little more forceful in their apprehension of him, even if it was unintentional.
"You could be my Santa Claus"
The vampire sex tape was interesting, you'd think she'd be quite sore
I never though of Anna Paquin as hot, but DAMN she looks good on this show
Larry from Newhart as the Sherrif! I wonder if his brother Daryl and Daryl are deputies

I watched it last night, not sure how I feel about it yet. I am going to give it another shot. For me in one scene Anna looked very hot, in another she looked just average which is how I always viewed her. HBO does come up with some very good shows so I am willing to give this 1 or two more views. I am interested to find out who is beating the crap out of Anna. Probably vampire haters

Lots of promise. Will probably be a lot better when Ball gets his grubby little mits off of it.

Mrs. Ismitje thought about subscribing to HBO just for this series -she is a big fan of the books - but decided not to because of feedback from other readers who previewed the show. We decided to wait for the free preview weekend that usually accompanies launch of a major new HBO series, but since they didn't have one - we're Netflixing this one later on methinks.

Is this really in question? I thought it was obvious that it's the couple who tried to drain Bill The Vampire.

There's no question... you're right. You can clearly see their car right before they attack her, then you see their faces and they're bitching at her.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so, I did not see any of that so I suppose you are correct

Glad to see Anna Paquin make the transition from child actress to adult. I thought she was quite good and very attractive in a wholesome way. Kind of an All-American Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Does anybody but me think the characters are written to be simple-minded? I found myself grinding my teeth a little bit.

And it's the pilot. The fact that they went so far into establishing these different character relationships is telling of how character-driven this show is. There is a lot of promise in this show and the concept is ideal for an HBO show, it all depends on what direction the writers will take it in and if they are competent enough to realize its potential.

A recommendation to all:
Don't go to the IMDB.com page for this show (or any show in progress, really). It shows the number of episodes that an actor/actress filmed.
If someone is only shown as being in 5 episodes of True Blood, it's probably because they dead.

I took this into account while watching the show and forming my opinion. Even giving them slack for the stage of development they're at, I still thought the writing bordered on charicature (girl slut, boy slut, perky but wise grandma...). I'm not giving up the show yet (I'm in the market, what with there being no Wire, Deadwood, Sopranos, etc), but I'm less happy with it so far than others who've posted. I promise not constantly piss and moan about it if my opinion continues to be negative, though.

I actually agree that it had its faults but I also believe that's almost completely down to Alan Ball who the further he dettaches himself from the show, the better it will probably get.
