I'll just add my lil 2 cents into this.... I live in south Mississippi and i hear it at school VERY often. As in 1-5 times every 5 minutes. Its a shame really.

Do teachers even try to enforce it? I've seen teachers at my school try to, but they always get the same response, "You is just doing this cuz I'm black," My mom's on the school board and the teachers have been told to just walk away if the student says that. I think it's completely inexcusable, but I don't know what teachers can do at that point.

Usually they just act like they don't hear it. They hear it then just keep talking or look away.

I have beef with the stupid 'Death Test' advertising that my mouse wanders over everytime I move it from the tab, down the page. I don't need a stupid grimreaper laughing uncontrollably while it encourages me to find how much longer I have to live! Oh the joys! Ever thought how a personal with a terminal illness would feel in responce to that.

I think the fact that's deemed "acceptable" in hip-hop has led many young people to think it's okay to use it, regardless of their ethnicity. For example, the punk who used it on me claimed "that's what I call my homies". The kid was from Central America (more than likely he was Salvadoran judging by the neighborhood we were near), and probably had no clue as to the history behind the word or how horrible a word it is.
It's funny, if it had been another black person using it on me, I wouldn't have been so upset - I would have been more upset that he used it in "mixed" company than over the fact that he used it all (full disclosure - when I was much younger, my brother and I used to call each other n***er all of the time, mostly because it was forbidden. As we grew older, we totally dropped it from our vocabulary). But the venom with which the kid used it.... Wow!! He was looking for the most hateful thing to say and he did it.
I don't think it's possible to explain to someone who isn't black just how horrible it is to have someone call you n***er. It totally strips you of your humanity, reducing you to something somehow sub-human.

Yeah, that's part of the problem - white and latino kids think it's totally acceptable to use, when it's not. I told the kid afterwards that he really needs to be careful - not everyone he comes across is going to be a bleeding heart liberal like me trying to educate people.:D He could have run into someone who would have put a serious hurt on him.

I got a beef with the mods... or the lack of them. Skizz used to post and sort out "scuffles" nearly 3-4 times a week. JC and Apps do a fine job, but theres no longer the "I'm a mod and I'll ban your ass" effect without Skizz posting.

Well, they're still in the process of picking a new one, apparently.

and to go along with this UVa but not as serious, i have a professor that will use the term "reverse racism". i can't grasp the concept. it can not exist in the context that it is used. it is racism whether it is blue hating purple, or purple hating blue (place appropriate racial group in place of color). it seems like our country has decided that the use of racial terms is ok, as in hip-hop and the media and also only punishable when it is a white attacking some other group. Equality right?

well they better hurry up. It's been a disaster the past week. A guy telling other people to buy different brands of boots because he can't wear them? I guess I just find it sad that theres even people like that in the world.

I'll ban people that do something REALLY bad. But you can't go around banning everyone just because they do the odd post that might annoy you. If someone is especially annoying you. Let me know who it is and ill see what i can do. It is actually much harder modding this board than you would think especially with the amount of idiots we've been getting on here recently.

If it were that, then wouldn't they be playing? Jc did what needed to be done in that stupid persons puma V1.08 thread. I think there needs to be something like that except sticky it.

We do all play.
I do it because i wanted the board to be a better place. There is already a sticky containing wall rules etc.
Seriously, as i said in my PM to you, you were a noob once. And we all probably said that you were annoying us  a lot of the time we clean up things before you see them but we can't be on here 24/7 if you think you can do the job apply to DK. Your ideas would be welcomed.

I'm high school student; theres no way I would or could ever mod. Could you tell us who has applied? or is that a secret?

It seems that everybody has only really taken proper notice of what's happened with this board since I formally announced my resignation.
The one thing I think I should point out is that it's not a matter of "since Skizz resigned this place went down the shitter". For at least the past three to four months my moderating has been minimal. Apps and JC have probably done most of the actual mod work and I've swept up when I've been about.
Now that I'm not about yes, a new mod is needed but picking one is a bit of a difficult one. Swanny would have made a good mod a year ago but frankly he's not been around enough. Him saying the reason he wasn't about for ages was because he wasn't a moderator has kinda done his legs in my eyes because it seems like the only reason he's coming back is because the position has now become available (which is pretty much the facts under his own admission). I think if he ran over his ideas with Apps and JC they may well take him on but I'm not sure.
At the end of the day, I was told by Huss (the guy who runs BigSoccer) to pick someone to take over. I declined that because I'm not going to be working with them, and for that reason Apps and JC need to decide among themselves who the right person is. I'm happy to give them my opinion if they want it, but that's all the contribution I will have.
On top of that, it may well be a good idea to rewrite the forum rules again and sticky them as it was before. They were taken down as it was mostly regulars who were posting and obviously everyone knew the rules, but since there has been a sudden flock of noobs coming on it may be an idea to redo it.
Rant over.

Anybody can declare their interest in the post. They would have to submit an application and take it from there. I don't think Apps and JC would let on who they actually have a preference for, but there shouldn't be a problem with disclosing the applicants.
By the way, I left a big old assgroove in my modding chair :p
