19 year old Juan Martin Del Potro became the first teen to reach the quarterfinals of the US open since Andy Roddick in 2001.

He's won 23 matches in a row and it appears that he's no fluke.

Del Pony is a legend. :)

Seriously, the guy hasn't even developed half his potential yet. At least, he seems to have a better work-rate and attitude than Fat Dave and none of the mental-midgetness Coria is so famous for.

I bet he'll have a Scotch and a Muzza next :D

will soon be the best Argentinian tennis player (ranking wise, because we all know that he's already the best).

Hopefully he doesn't settle for just a top 10 rating though (which has happened to Nalbandian)

La chancha lost to Davydenko, and it's up to Del Portro to get us to the finals of Davis Cup.

He won the first set, against Andreev.

Vamos Martin!

Monster win. He blasted Andreev off the court.

Now, we really have two solid single players unlike most of the recent DC history --that is, unless Fat Dave starts to have these mental fart episodes all too often.

Is that enought to beat Spain in the final? I think so. But the key will be the choice of surface. I'd go for carpet/hard. While Nadal is a beast on any surface, I think both Nalbandian and Del Potro can get the best of Ferrer on those surfaces.

Del Potro comes through! The kid is awesome!

Though match for Nalbadian, he started well, but aparently he ran out of gas.

Now it's Spain in the final. Nadal is going to be tough. I wonder if they can take the doubles.

Del Potro derrota a Nalbandian en el Masters
El joven tenista argentino está que no cree en nadie, ahora la víctima fue su paisano y ex campeón del Masters de Madrid David Nalbandian a quien superó en los octavos de final por 6-4 y 6-2

Del Potro is looking great at the Australian Open. He made it look easy against Marin Cilic, who was playing great tennis coming in. The final score was 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

He's in the quarterfinals. The bad news is that his next opponent is Roger Federer. Lets see if Del Potro can manage the upset.

Vamos Martin!!!

I haven't been following the AO but I have read that Del Potro got spanked by Federer. Way to have a reality check.

On the other hand, I think my hopes that Del Potro would become a regular Top-5 player let alone Top-10 --regular like being there or thereabouts year in, year out, are not looking very realistic. His style is nothing to write home about and he seems to lack any sort of gameplan. His strokes are powerful yet very monotonous. His movement is sloppy. Unless he manages to find a way to outsmart his opponents, he will struggle against the Fed, Murray, Djokovic, Nadal and even against lower-ranked guys like Berdych, Simon and Cilic.

And, for the record, I hope the arrogant bastard that is Federer wins the AO. The sooner he gets past Sampras record, the more likely he will start thinking about retiring from the game. I can't stand his attitude.

So JMDP is not playing the first DC tie against the Netherlands (http://www.ole.clarin.com/notas/2009/02/12/tenis/01857740.html). That's disappointing to say the least. Nevermind what happened last year, this year is about commitment. He hasn't shown that and he looks as if he doesn't give a shit. I say he should be dropped from the team altogether.

Del Potro is doing awesome once again! He's in the semis at the French Open.

Lets see if he can get past Federer. He's never won even a set against Federer

World number two Roger Federer has claimed his place in Sunday's French Open final, beating Argentine Juan Martin del Potro three sets to two in Paris. (http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/sport/Federer_keeps_French_Open_dream_alive.html?siteSect=181&sid=10789506&cKey=1244291227000&ty=st)

In a lengthy, nail-biting semifinal Federer held out to win 3-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, putting the Swiss player on target to capture the only grand slam title that has eluded him so far in his career.

del potro is a beast. I wanted him to beat Murray (can't stand him) but a victory against the arrogant Nadal will do.
