rio ferdinand is at the centre of a drugs controversy
that could stop him playing against turkey on sat
he failed to turn up for a routine test 23 sept and has been asked to explain his actions at a personel
interview 13 october
it is thought this is why sven g e has delayed naming his squad

Rio Ferdinand failed to turn up for a drug test and may now be omitted from the England squad.

Perhaps he really forgot. Would he be allowed to forget or would somebody have reminded him?

Cocaine takes 24-48 hours to clear your system....

By all accounts it was a genuine mistake. He was moving house that day (old excuse I know) and turned up late at ManYoo to take the test, at which point the testers had already headed off.

He's a dopey sod, but hardly a Bosnich.

Jesus when are these scandals gonna stop ! Just when we've got our biggest match in 18 months looming.

Ferdinand often plays like he's off his head. He hasnt been good since the World Cup.

Some real fine role modles we've got in the Premiership eh

Rio Ferdinand has been left out of the England squad for Saturday's crucial Euro 2004 qualifying match in Turkey

Rio failed to attend a mandatory drug screening; saying that he was buys moving into a new house.

Rio Drugs Test

What happened?

UK Sport drugs tester turns up for a pre arranged test at MU training on tues 29 Sept

Rio is on the list of four players randomly chosen for a test

Some reports say he was there but forgot to do the test and went home to move house

36 hours later he does the test and is clean?

Many drugs eg cocaine, ectasy leave the body within 72hrs

Watsup!!

I don`t know if anyone here who could see Channel 5 news saw this evenings programme. It was very funny, they did a Five Facts item on Rio. Kirsty Young said it with total exasperation which made it even funnier:

1. Rio Ferdinand was first dropped from the England team when he was caught drink driving after a night out to celebrate his own call up.
2. Rio was later in trouble after starring in his own home made porn film.
3. Ferdinand was cautioned by police after jumping onto the bonnet of a moving car whilst drunk.
4. He was last in court for being caught speeding three times in as many months.

I can`t remeber what number five was, but the way Kirsty said it all it was clear she thinks he`s an imbecile. She opened the news with `Rio Ferdinand he`s Englands most expensive footballer, his he also the dumbest`.

Please. He was informed he had to take a drug test right before he hit the showers after training. After his shower, he ran to his car and took off.

Then says he "fogot."

I have a bridge to sell you if you believe him.

I think if Rio is guilty of anything, it is being a bit too arrogant - 'Stuff it, I'm moving house, they can wait' etc.

so its ok for any football players from now on to go home when a drugs test is due, wait 36 hours and say they "forgot" even if they were told just 45 minutes before??

36 hours later when the drugs have gone from your sytem?? the FA might as well stop drug testing..

wasn`t ferdinand out the night before?

has he still got that drug dealer friend?

was he seen shopping later that day when he was supposed to be moving?

surely man u organised his move...they have people to do everything for the players dont they??

I see a lot of reasons why this decision is correct. But I also see a lot of reason why it is not.

He might have forgot. Not impossible. But it's also not impossible he took something and this was a way not to be discovered. Now (according to the polls) have of the national and all his teammates are behind him. If he took the drug test and it was positive, he would get the same treatment as the unknown rapists.

I don't know if Rio was out the night before. I really don't care what players do in their free time (as long as they don't go around raping or roasting), but
you are right on the delay part. You wait for a day or two and drugs are out of your system.

I read that he went back 2 hours later when he remembered but the testers had gone and wouldn't return. If that's true then I'm sure 2 hours isn't enough to disguise a positive test and it should surely be taken into account.

The FA's timing seems particularly bad - the crucial England/Turkey game only a few days away. The only sensible comment I've heard on this is that Turkey could protest the result (ineligible player?) should England play Ferdinand and get the win/draw they need for automatic qualification. Anyone know anything about this?

Why in gods name would they want to protest a victory? ;)

THE TREATMENT OF RIO FERDINAND IS OUT OF ORDER!

Even if he has taken drugs, it has no been proven and he should be innocent until proven guilty. If his meeting is on Monday, he should be allowed to play in Turkey. If its all a mistake and he hasn't played its too late to change things.

do you not think that within minutes of RF leaving the training ground someone from man u realising they could loose their thirty million pound defender for up to two years would have been ringing his mobile to tell him to get back now

I'm just wondering. Rio seems to have this recurring knee injury. Could it be that something was given to him that could be detected during the drug test???

I'm not saying that it would be an illegal drug but some steroids.

I'm just hoping that it is a real mistake (forgot the date) and nothing serious.

Euro Championship without England would be no fun for the fans in Singapore.
