The first national game after the World Cup. Rudi named the players for this game:

Goal: Kahn and Lehmann

Defence: Arne Friedrich (Hertha), Ingo Hertzsch (Hamburg), Kehl, Metzelder, Ramelow

Midfield: Ballack, Bierofka, Böhme, Freier (Bochum), Frings, Hamann, Jeremies, Schneider

Offence: Asamoah, Jancker, Klose, Neuville, Zickler

The only player without a cap so far is Arne Friedrich. Hertzsch and Freier have one, Bierofka two caps.

HAHA Paul Freier... that guy looks very comical
It's great to see Voeller bringing in youngsters
im particularly excited to see Bierofka play
What about Christian Rahn? I thought he played well last time

Böhme stays at home with injury, Neuville is still questionable.

Oliver Neuville stays in Leverkusen and also Torsten Frings stayed at home. Hamann, Metzelder, Lehmann and Asamoah are slightly injured and it's insecure whether they can play. Völler added two Werder players to the roster: midfielders Fabian Ernst (1 cap)and Tim Borowski (no cap)

Max is no real alternative in his age.

Hamann is the next one out.

Germany's lineup:

Lehmann - Hertzsch, Ramelow, Metzelder - Bierofka, Ballack, Schneider, Jeremies, Freier - Jancker, Klose

HT 1-1

1:0 Berbatov (21. Balakov). Freier is doing a capital mistake on the right wing by trying to clear with simply passing to the middle. His pass just finds Balakov. Balakov sees Berbatov who has little trouble with scoring against Lehmann.

1:1 Ballack (23. pk Klose). Klose was on his way to the goal and falls inside the box. The ref decides on pk (announcer says correctly, I'm still insecure). Ballack has no problems to score.

FT 2-2

2-1 Balakov (50 pk Berbatov). Ramelow holds Berbatov, who struggles and fights his way to the box. The ref is being fooled and whistles pk instead of free kick. Balakov scores very securely.

2-2 Friedrich (57 Schneider). That's at least the TV version. Schneider's corner kick finds Friedrich who shoots from 25m. His shot is deflected by Jancker (IMO it is Jancker's goal, but as don't have clear rules for stats and sympathy ratings instead it might remain Friedrich's goal).

Changes:
46' Kehl, Asamoah, Friedrich and Zickler in for Ballack, Freier, Bierofka and Metzelder
79' Borowski and Ernst in for Klose and Schneider

National game debuts for Friedrich and Borowski.

Arne Friedrich is new record holder: 2 Bundesliga games until the first cap in the national team is the quickest development ever. Record so far was Wolfgang Overath who needed 5 Bundesliga games.

I thought it was a pretty horrible and pathetic match... i nearly fell asleep so many times

Bierofka was such a disappointment he looked like he plays for a high school team

all the youngsters played poorly but at least it was good to see Voeller bringing in youth

Anyone notice those bastard bulgarians in the crowd make monkey calls whenever Asamoah touched the ball? BASTAAARDS

kicker determined Klose to be player of the day. Quite awkward, I didn't consider him more than average. IMO best players were Berbatov, Balakov and Schneider
