If you're right and Oddo starts - and does well - it could be the last we see of Panucci as a regular starter ...

I think you are right, Oddo outperformed Panucci during his last few NT appearances...he still is a bit too adventurous down the right wing for my liking but in this match that should only help Italy...

Blah. Let's hope Azerbaijan marks him as well as Inter did.

Pancaro steps in for Panucci ---------------------------------------------------------------
Giuseppe Pancaro has been called to the Italy squad after Roma defender Christian Panucci suffered an injury this afternoon.
--------------------------------------------
Alessandro Nesta and Nicola Legrottaglie are also dealing with minor fitness problems and did not take part in today’s game, which Italy won 12-2.

My husband's over visiting family in Sicily and Calabria this week, and he just called to say he has tickets for this game. I'm SOOOO jealous! (it was not a coincidence he chose this week to go ....)

I read that today Azerbaijan's best player was hurt in a car accident and is out of the match.
Italy will skate any way -- I just hope nobody gets hurt (altho a slight muscle pull late in the match for Totti that keeps him out of the next Sunday's game wouldn't exactly be unwelcome. :) )

Inzaghi 9'
Totti 27'
Totti 34' (lob)

Delvecchio out for a month Saturday 11 October, 2003

Marco Delvecchio should be out of action for at least four weeks after he suffered a thigh strain during training with Italy.

I like this line up, nice defense, great goal keepers, dangerous forwards, and two world class divers in zambrotta and inzaghi to steal a win. Off 80p

Nothing "stolen" so far. Just a completely overmatched opponent and a home crowd that is just waiting for the party to start after the game. I think my husband tried to call at halftime from a cell phone or something, but all I could hear was the background noise.

Vieri had two goals disallowed for offside - replays showed they were both the correct call. In the second case, he accidentally stepped on the Azeri keepers' arm, and the guy had to be subbed. Vieri didn't even look back at the guy ... sort of classless. Then he made an ass of himself by throwing a little tantrum when Trap subbed in Di Vaio - 10 minutes into the second half, and he obviously had visions of a ton of goals to be had, so he got pissed, brushed by Trap, tossed a bottle on the field, and tromped straight to the locker room. What a jerk.

Couldn't agree more Sue.... Personally I am sick of seeing this crap.. When will guys like Vieri realise the TEAM is bigger than the individual? If Trap left him on and he got injured he would have been condemned by club, player and public.... Vieri just wanted the "easy goals for the records"
JERK? yes...

Makes it even nicer that Di Vaio promptly got his first-ever goal for the Azzurri. A nice solo run down the left which I know Vieri could NOT have done because he's too slow. 3-0 now with 10 minutes left.
