Tough draw.
I would expect Pompey to field a full strength team, knowing that the cups are their only real route to any success.
What will 'Big Phil' field I wonder.
As usual, I will be none too pleased if we don't field a team consisting of mainly first team players.I would also expect to see some youth in this one though, perhaps Sinclair, Di Santo and maybe one other that the new gaffer deems capable of competiting at a high level.
We were lucky with Mourinho, quite lucky, as most continentals see cup fixtures as a bit of a laugh, a run out for fitness and expierence.
Never been that way in England...then again, that's why nobody else on the planet has a cup competition that rivals the FA Cup :)

Interesting note, KDB and our significants are planning a trip to England in late Feb - early March. The one weekend we're looking at is the weekend of the Carling Cup Final. If Chelsea aren't in it, Dave and I will be at Chelsea @ Portsmouth in the League on the following Tuesday. I'd much rather be at Wemberly on that Saturday.
For all his faults, that was one thing people (and the media) never gave Jose credit for; he took every cup seriously. Look at Wenger, AF and the rest and like Clan said, it's a laugh for them.
However one of Pompey big problems this year is lack of depth. I doubt they'll be able to field a full side for this one.

very tough draw for us
this Cup and the FA will be more important to Pompey than League play imo

Really couldn't get too much worse.. Portsmouth will definately look to get something out of this. I can only hope we field a pretty strong side for this one because when Portsmouth are on form, if we're not doing good we can get taken out very early.
Oh man, it's so great to have football back :D:D

I heard that Scolari sees the Carling Cup as serious but he also sees it in the same vein as Wenger so expect to see some first teamers with some youth like sinclair, di santo, etc.. Good news for us as we get to see some good youngsters.

Different from Arsenal because some of the players which he will call up are ready for the first team anyway. Sinclair and Di Santo included.

I'd like to see an attack with Sinclair, Di Santo and Kalou up front at least once during this Cup. Would like to see Ivanovic and Paim feature at some point also seeing as we know nothing about how well they can play.
I personally like using some youth in Carling Cup as it's exciting to see what the future might hold.

Agreed.
Though imo every trophy has value and Portsmouth away isn't exactly a walkover fixture!
