 All deserved, we had the best defence in the CL last year, Carv could have had a shout as well, Lamp's injuries most affected the League campaign he had 4 goals and 2 assists in 10 matches and his usual unappreaciated other brillance,, we were the better midfield and aurguably better side except for penaltys:(

We seem to be the only supporter base that can't appreciate our own great players, the anti-Tesos and not all in a good way sometimes

Cech was not the best keeper last year. He and Terry were inconsistent in my opinion. Rio should have gotten the award. And didn't MANU concede less goals than us in the CL last year?

I don't know about Lampard as I consider Ronaldo in a category of midfielders, but he won best forward.

I'm not being anti-Teso and I definitely appreciate what our players do and accomplish, but based on my viewing of the games, my opinion is different than those of UEFA.

What did Drogba do in the Champion's League that made him the best in Europe, over players like Torres or Messi?

The award is given for domestic and CL play right?

Or is it just CL - not clear from the posts here that people are looking at Premiership performances.

I think only CL.

Thanks both for the clarification - wasn't sure but this makes sense and it would be separate to the European Player of the Year award.

So the question obviously arises as to whether or not we can now refer to last season as a treble-winning year given the 3 trophies the club won.;)

yes the CL coaches vote on the awards

Lampards win did catch me off guard a little, but I dont think that too much weight is placed on these awards anyways

anyone see Ronaldo laugh when Althetico got placed in the same group with Liverpool?

why did he laugh?

maybe he found it amusing that Althetico were now in one of the hardest groups around which also happened to contain Liverpool

just making an assumption, but Cristina was giggling like a schoolgirl when they announced that Althetico were in the same group as the Scum.

The best goalkeeper of the tournament, Julio Cesar, wasn't even nominated.

I'm probably way off here, but isn't he the glove holder at Inter. And weren't Inter knocked out 3-0 on aggregate by Liverpool (no clean sheets) in the first knockout round?

Or are you suggesting that the performance against PSV (2 clean sheets), Fener (1 clean sheet) and CSKA (no clean sheets but conceded two at home) is enough to give him the award?

I think generally they would go for players who played until the knockout stages and kept multiple clean sheets.

But like I said I'm probably wrong and as you're a Milan fan, it's not as though you'd want Inter to be recognized positively :D

EDIT: I do note however that you have a Brazilian leaning so maybe that explains it.

Most likely because he's still suffering from the stereotype about poor Brazilian goalkeepers that the likes of Dida tried so hard to perpetuate.;)

I didn't see much of Inter's CL matches last year, but he's always impressed me when I see him.
