What an original idea; Not! :p The Thunderbirds have been doing the same thing for 7-8 years, with their annual Hockey Challenge. So far they've raised over $6mil dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Anyone that plans on sitting in the uncovered stand for this match, please be prepared to participate in a couple tifo displays with the ECS.

They will be timed so that they do not interrupt the run of play. :D

We never claimed that it was an original idea, in fact they got the idea from the hockey guys. Do you have somehting of value to add here or are you just looking to be a smart a....

The bottom line is that it is going to be a great event and raise money for a good cause.

Screw hockey :DHey, I didn't say it wasn't a great cause, because it is. But a little acknowledgment of where they got their inspiration for this event would've been nice.

Because it just does... Somehow... Attribution matters... Like there's never been two corporate teams that played each other before, ever...

Up the Sounders!

Considering this has evolved from the annual Boeing vs Microsoft match that traces its roots back into the nineties, perhaps you should take a closer look at who the knock off is?

Do you exist for any other reason than to be an ass in internet forums? You cast a negative impression on soccer fans with just about every post that you put out.

I encourage you to contribute in your own way, but thought maybe it would help to hear an opinion of how you come across. You're much nicer in person.

This is from a private message received from an unnamed source.

"Would you like me to post your email address over on the Tbirds forum (which I am a moderator of), so that the fans over there who were freaking out about this AND were sending ME nasty emails/pm's, so they can let you know how they feel."

Please feel free. What the Puget Sound Soccer Challenge is doing for the Ronald Macdonald house if doing is for a good cause and I doubt that most people in their right mind would argue with me on this.

"Many of the posts were very inappropriate, along the lines of "where the f*** do they get off copying us, and not even saying where the idea came from", and worse, some even questioning the manhood of soccer players (nothing new there, right?)."

Seriously, the T-birds fans were upset that someone else would support the Ronald Mcdonald house? I find that hard to believe. If its true, then it is a sad state of affairs for the T-Birds fans.

"You know, I have defended you (and Thom), both here, and within the ECS, from people who rip on you for your style of pbp/commentating on USLLive/Comcast. The biggest complaints are that you both talk too much. I have said, many times, that you're both more used to doing radio, and are very good in that medium."

Just for the record, I am certain that there are people who have disagreed with the way Thom and I have broadcast matches, but I have never done radio. I would change my style for that. I've heard far more positive than I have negative for my commentary. I do invite criticism though. Please forward it to matibishop@gmail.com and I will take it into consideration as I strive to become a better broadcaster.

Please feel free to take future shots at me on any level in public. I am more than comfortable with the role that I play in this world and threats will not effect the way that I attend to my business in public or in private.

Mati

Good responses.

T-Bird fans... Shame on you, if that is how you truly feel.

Unbelievable that there are actually people that instead of being excited that the Sounders and other corporatations are putting together a great event to raise money for families, which is truly what it is all about, would take the time to take shots (no pun intended) at the group because they perceive them to be ripping off an idea that wasn't their idea to begin with!

First of all, Microsoft and The T-birds were not the first company to come up with a hockey challenge or this type of sporting event. Events like this have been done by other corporations for decades to raise money for worthy causes.

Second of all, nowhere in the flyer or e-mails that I received fram Chad Mack, who is organizing the event, did it claim, that the idea was original. Although, Microsoft has had a soccer team far longer than they had a hockey team. Since when do the Seattle T-Birds of Trademark and Copyrights on a Corporate and Sportng Charity Event?

I guess having telethons, benefit concerts, and other fundraising events that are similar to other events are an issue with these people as well.

People, get over yourselves! If all you can do is accuse a group of folks that are doing someting positive in the community for "TM infringement or Copyright Infringement" using (soccer instead of hockey) and post negative comments about it here or anywhere, then you truly need to take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself where your true angst is coming from and examine your heart.

To T-Bird fans or anyone else that takes issue, This event is about raising money for families using soccer as a vehicle to do that. Let's get some perspective and a life people!
