Props to the Fire and their fans. Over 15K on a Wednesday night.
They made us look bad tonight. We had trouble putting 2 passes together while moving forward. Way too many long balls to red kits or open space. Wizzers looked slow and for the most part, uninspired.
After we scored first I was hopeful but the early goal only served to inspire Chicago. They looked as though they wanted it more. A truly disappointing performance by KC. Fabbro needs to pick it up and move. He seems to stand around too much.

what the HELL happened tonight?
3 yellow cards and 2 reds?
I am so pissed off about this game that I don't know where to begin.
The thing that pisses me off the most, is that for the 4th time this year, I am bringing my nephew (who lives in Nebraska) to see Tony play and he will not be there...AGAIN!
Aaron missed Tony the first two times due to Nats duty and the second two due to red card suspension.
how do you explain this to a 6 year old?
grrrr!

The first was for, I believe, dissent. Trying to read his lips, I think he prefaced $#@% with "you". That'll always get the ref's attention.
The second, after the call on Nick he rolled the ball but not to the ref. I think that was the last straw, an accumulation type thing.

Uh...as a neutral fan, you KC boys didn't have a problem with the absurd "passive" offside call on the third goal and the ejection of Meola?
It's only passive if the player isn't anywhere near the ball--a guy can't suddenly throw his hands up in the air at a ball that passes five feet from him and claim disinterest. I've NEVER seen passive offsides called on the same side of the field, much less within feet of the offside player.
And the Meola call? Pure thalydimide spite! *************** that guy!

I can't complain too much about the calls. If we had played worth a crap, maybe. The camera work and production was not too good either. We just got outplayed and had our @sses handed to us.

both o the reds were shyte garcia was nowhere near Beasley when he tripped over himself.
The tony call, obviously, was just stupid.
Those calls didnt affect the outcome of this game, sure, but in the next game, when we are without our top 2 defensive palyers, it might.
I ownder What the hell bob was smoking tonight.
It doesnt exactly take Alex Mother************ing Furguson to figure our that if you WANT TO WIN A GAME, you need t SCORE GOALS. To Score goals, you need to put in someone who can score goals, NOT TWO ************ING DEFENSIVE ************ING MID-************ING FIELDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOr do you take out the only physical force you had in that game so far at halftime.
School starts tomorrow, so i was in abad mood as it was before the game

According to Sean, Nick would have missed the next game even with a yellow. But I'm not sure he deserved a red. DMB goes down awfully easy.

Well said! CJ I ask you the question agian. Does it bother you as a GM. that this team has come out four or five times lethargic and looked like ************? Lack of preperation? Looked like it. Don't give me that it is 3 games in a week crap. Sure we might not win everygame in that stretch but we don't lose on a 11-2 goal diff. That is crap management, and bad tactics as well as game prep.
This might be the downfall of the season. We lose the rest of our games and don't make the playoffs someone should get wacked. God I don't hope this happens but it could and that would be very sad.
Special note to Mikegone.. It is ok to boo your team!

It could've made a difference on the ultimate outcome here, yes that passive offside playon call was bullsh!t. That was their second goal and the defender backs off from a ball played right to a guy at the last minute who decides he just going about face a walk to the sideline. Tony doesn't even attempt a save as a result (Goal). Our team goes from being even to down. He argues, as he should, after the goal and gets a yellow. Later in the match another bullsh!t call lands Garcia gone due to Beasley sniper attack and Tony (being team captain once again, as he should) trys to question the call and finally moves on and rolls the ball away (like any smart player would do to allow his team to get positioned) and gets a second yellow/red. Result... (another goal - credit to the Fire as well). All this amazingly enough all occurs in a 4 - 1 scoreline with less than one second left on the refs watch because as soon as their shot hits the back of the net... Match over.. We've got two suspensions on key players for the next match in the home stretch for the playoffs. I'm begining to think Etchevery's comments about the ref's is true even after we benefitted from a bad call last game.
Do I think Chicago outplayed us Yes. We're we going to lose anyway... Probably. Chicago own's us they always have but the margin of victory pisses me off due to the midgets in yellow. (Has anyone else noticed the large crop of vertically challenged officials in our league?)

Player Ratings for this horrible match.
Goalkeeping:
*Meola - got caught watching on the first goal he thought is was going wide. See previous post on the second goal however you always play to the whistle Mr Professional... argue after the play. Third goal got hung out to dry on One v One with Hristo. 4th goal Kovalenko made a nice chip which actually hit off his hip. Should never get ejected. Overall SubPar - I'm disappointed. POOR
*Bo - NR
Defense:
*Guiterrez first game back and a little shaky but OK. AVERAGE
*Burns - showed his age some, thinking/reacting slower than opposition. Had several forward balls knocked out because the Fire player recovered faster and got pressure back on him. All dangerous crosses came from his side. (We need to start thinking draft for this position - upcoming games w/Rapids and Hendo running at him will make this even more apparent) Still not done yet though. POOR
*Garcia - Back just doesn't seem as organized on the offside trap without Vermes. Bad call on the red card. Was beaten a couple of times but that is the life of a defender but not frequently. Liked him going forward. AVERAGE
*Talley - I like Talley more than Vermes but Nick and him are not in snyc on traps or breakaways as to who gets who. Seveal teams have been able to drop balls between them and get chances when the play is on the fly. Played OK nothing to complain about really. AVERAGE
Midfield:
*Klein - Where were you??? Got marked right out of the game. Why do you do this. You should be a premier player. Step it up consistently. MISSING IN ACTION bye bye USMNT
*Zavagnin - Normal bust a$$ play. Couldn't find fault with anything but nothing standout either which is what defines his Armas type role. GOOD
*Preki - Has so many good skills but his deficiencies are glaring wider by the game. Can you at least fake towards a guy that has the ball to get him to pass or do they all get to dribble right by you from 5 feet away and get right into the center attacking midfield. AVERAGE
*Quill - Get some pace on your shots. Still thinking he's going to turn out well but just keeps falling short of solid 90 minute games. AVERAGE
*Gomez - Please Trade Now. How many balls are you going to shoot up into the seats? You have one solid game in five to keep me interested. Tonight a couple of occasions you got the ball on the left side with no one with in 30 yards up the flank and you stop the ball until pressure gets close and then you have to force long diagonals to Klein only to have them hit a Fire player squarely in the chest at the center circle. You p!ssed me off tonight. POOR
*McKeon - whats happend to his form? I can see why he's been bench this year but he's better than what he's been showing lately. Had no influence on the game when he came in. AVERAGE (for him).
Forwards:
*Armstrong - Needs more competant people around him to succeed. If Igor had played we would've been better. Stevie can't carry the agressive load all on his own with out someone helping in the space. GOOD
*Fabbro - Lumbering and standing too much. We've seen him do better. I wonder if the Onandi syndrome is begining to curse that position/role. Chicago just too quick for him. AVERAGE/POOR
*Brown - Oh jeez.... He must do it in practice cause he sure doesn't do it in games. Like Klein and Q had absolutely no impact on the game. Must've just run around and acted like he was doing something. Like Gomez Trade Now lights going off even though we're past the deadline. Did he even touch the ball more than twice in the half? POOR
Coaching:
*Bob - Was outcoached and the team was unprepared. Chicago is a great team and are much better than their record add on the familiarity of the playing surface for them but... Chicago owns us, always have, always will, as Ganz can not find enough adjustments to keep these matches competitive and give our team a chance. Is it just me or does it seem like every time I look at his face on the sidelines he has the look of a happily retired man with the Cheshire grin? He's a good coach but I'm begining to believe he's lost his fire for the game. Remember 2000, our team was inspired and played hard. In fact almost every game there was a scuffle or something that got the blood going. McKeon intimidating people like Azizi and Mo taking some shot for the team. Now Preki only plays one way and throws his arms up all the time in disgust as well as many others. Chicago on the other hand gets their butts off the ground and kept coming while we, (to use a baseball term) rounded out first base when dispossesed. Bob's team pissed me off tonight. He had no answers (Still). VERY POOR
Sorry for the Novel...

I like the passive offside rule. Still, how can a guy be passive and the goal scorer on the same rush? That seems to violate the meaning and spirit of the word "passive". I want to see goals, but that is rediculous. If MLS is allowing cherry picking now, then maybe I put a pure forward right next to the keeper and let him hang out there. Send a flier down a wing and have the forward cherry pick on the opposite wing. Hell, he's passive, right?!? --- Good rule, improperly applied.

Easy to disect this loss in hindsight. Speed kills: CHI's gameplan was to outrun KC and they did all night after the first 10 min. No offense in Mexico or dc, sickness, travel, a cramped rediculous schedule, no Igor, and no home time in forever. KC only had about half of a game in them. Their goal was a gift pitifully requiring two chances. They couldn't finish, had little touch outside Preki, and quit a bit after the first goal.
I think the cards are just a function of KC's fatigue. Tony earned his ejection with the stupid card in the first half. Our guys were slow, late, and mouthy. There is a reason it's called a "caution". Garcia's was Beasley alone on Tony. I don't see Simmonds as having any other option. Garcia was brutal in the game anyway.
Random thought's:
Chicago must be a favorite for the Cup now. Speed everywhere, a tremendous home-field advantage, they beat Columbus like a drum and they play home and home at the end, probably for the East title. (I don't think dc will roll over for MET's 3 upcoming meetings, they will play them tough)
Awesome crowd. There should be no question who the "icon" team of MLS is. They have been it since they arrived in 1998.
I like KC's road kits, they've grown on me. Pity KC cant' play 90 minutes in them.
Klein had no touch all game. Sure he provided width but after one half-good cross and 10 turnovers, I would have subbed him too. Rediculous.
I want to hear all the Lowe bashers come out and ream Fabbro for his pitiful workrate with the same vigor. Lowe always, yes always, had a higher work rate than that slug, usually with someone drapped on his back. Lowe has the body to bang people, did, and could take a free. Bottom line is Fabbro has to play some defense and have a higher work rate or these scores will become more common. That goes for all the attackers. Check the tape, Chicago's attackers were on the backline often.
It's no small coincidence that in Igor's last two missed two games, KC has been outscored 11-2. His game is one that compliments everyone out there, it's that valuable.
Preki might be a God, but is fitness visibly was gone after 75 minutes. I hope a couple of days with his own pillow will help.
I'm not worried about Bo Sunday. He's one heck of alot better than two seasons ago. I am worried about Brunt and the defending. Two practices had better solve the problems that couldn't be addressed the last 3 weeks.
Welcome back to Diego, KC missed him. So did I.
Big picture is this: KC came through a 3 game horror of a MLS road swing with 4 points. That's 4 points more that they usually get, even in the 2000 season. I'm confident that a few days in their own bed's will be a pretty good tonic for the whole team. As I mentioned a month ago that KC is headed for a low seed and it seems pretty certain that they will have to figure our how to play 90 against speed on a small field.

Wow....reading through here, a lot of people had a lot to say.
-Mike, Spoon is right, after something like that we have all the right to boo our team.
-Good thing I left at the 90th minute so I didnt have to watch the last goal or the two red cards.
-Do the Fire just love running up the score on us? Nothing like kicking a guy while he's down. Oh well, we won the Cup and they are still making us pay.
-TWO REDS?! I couldn't believe it when I read it. What the heck is with Nick? At some point it stops being coincidence or bad calls...
-We were totally outplayed. No player ratings are needed, no one played good.
-When does Gansler's job come into question? I know, I know, we're in good position in the league, (meaning in the huge pack thats going to make the playoffs and just jockeying for position) but when a team has this many uninspired performances someone has to start pointing fingers to the top.
-On the second goal at least two, maybe three, Fire players were offside. Thats not "passive", thats the ref with his head up his ass. The third goal might have been offside, but it came as no surprise as it was the same linesman that didnt think Wolff was off on the second goal. Not sure if it would have mattered, but probably not.
-Meola had never been red carded in his whole life before the game at LA. Now he has two in a month.
Let's hope something changes by Sunday, or this could be a long last quarter of the season.

First, while I think the Fire played better and deserved the win, I don't think we were necessarily four goals better than KC. I think you hit the nail on the head with the fatigue thing. When I saw Fire players burning past the Wizards' defense in the first twenty minutes I thought "God, KC looks tired". Of course, I'd seen that same kind of slowness from the Fire last year when we had guys missing and an overloaded schedule.
Also, BenC is right on our second goal. Hristo was so far offsides on our second goal it was unbelievable. "Passive" or not, he was close enough to the ball that the flag should have gone up. While Meola was right that it was a cack call, though, he was stupid to earn himself a yellow for useless dissent.
How you guys didn't score a second goal in that incredible goalmouth scramble, I don't know. We just got lucky that Bocanegra was able to come from freaking nowhere and head the ball off the line. Anyway, I think Preki played well so BenC can't say "nobody played good". Believe me, we'd love to have Preki on our team.
I hope you know that Diego Gutierrez got a loud and grateful reception by the Fire fans and chants of "Deigo Gutierrez" broke out from Section 8 about three or four times during the game itself. I think Diego had a fire in his belly last night and he played hard and played well, reminding us why we are so disappointed that we were forced to send him to you guys. Our loss was definitely your gain.
Finally, I wish I was as positive on the Fire's chances in the play-offs as you are. Remember that the Fire team from last night that also spanked the Rotmasters 3-0 at home is the same team that couldn't score on DCU or the Milwaukee Rampage. They're so inconsistent that I just can't figure them out. One game they look like they can thrash Man. U. and the next they look like they'd get their ass kicked by your local girls U-8 team. And now Josh Wolff may have torn his ACL again.

DMB had absolutely no reason to take a dive. He was going in alone with a great chance for his second goal of the match, and the Fire were already up by three goals at the time. It appeared to me that he was clipped from behind.

We sucked. Chicago knew the feild better and the showed us that. Everytime we went to attack they had 10 people defending. Nick shouldnt of got a red. Maybe a yellow(not that it matters) and Tony's call was bull$hit. Chicago outplayed us but do they always have to run uo the score.
Oh yea how about geting a striker that isnt slow and sucks. We need to get rid of him. He dosent work hard enough.
