View Full Version : Where to stay and party in Chicago?

I'm working on being able to make a middle of the week trip to Chicago for the TNT qualifier.
Is there a designated hotel that traveling supporters are staying at? Is there a get-together planned for Tuesday night?

a few of us are staying at the bridgeview super 8, it was the cheapest thing around and about a 15 minute walk from the stadium
game day pre-funk will be at the globe pub, but i would like to get something set up for us staying at the super 8. the hotel apparently has a bar, so if enough of us are staying there that may be a simple possibility

When I thought I was going to be able to make this game, I looked at the Super 8. I didn't see anything about a bar on-site, unless they've added it recently. They do mention that there is a place called the Sportstime Bar and Grill 2 blocks away. That may be a better place for people in the Super 8 area.
USAClash, if you're looking for an easy way to do it, you may want to go to The Globe Pub's events page on their website:
http://www.theglobepub.com/events.shtml
Not sure if they still have it available, but they are offering a package for $40 that includes your match ticket, bus to and from the pub, and US Soccer sponsored tailgate (the Globe is, apparently, the official Pub of US Soccer). They do have a good food menu and a very solid beer list.
Worth keeping in mind, though, that the Globe is on the north side (actually, north of Wrigley Field), and Bridgeview is south. So even if you get the shuttle, and they take care of the driving, it'll take a while. It can take about 45 minutes on average, but given that there will be some event traffic, and the fact that you'll catch the tail end of rush hour, I would expect it to be closer to an hour and fifteen minutes. Again, you're not driving, so it isn't a huge deal, but if you just hate sitting in traffic, you may want to look at staying closer to the stadium.
GOOOOAL!!

Wife, 2 kids and myself are staying at the Super 8 (http://www.super8.com/Super8/control/Booking/check_avail?areaCode=2OI3&brandCode=SE,MQ,DI,HJ,KG,RA,TL&searchWithinMiles=25&areaType=1&destination=Bridgeview&state=IL&country=US&checkInDate=08/26&numberAdults=1&numberRooms=1&checkOutDate=08/27&numberChildren=0&numberBigChildren=0&rate=000&variant=&id=02855&propBrandId=SE&force_nostay=true).
We're getting into the hotel around 3:00 so we should have some time to put back a few cold ones and scare the locals. Our daughter does a good job of leading some songs so it should be good.
I like the idea of not having to drive to the game or afterwards. We'll probably still hit a tailgate at the game, but a place to hang out before that will be good. Sportstime Bar and Grill (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sports-time-bar-and-grill-bridgeview) may be that place.

Where is the tailgate going to take place? Who is setting up? I'm still trying to figure out what to do prior to kick-off.

Oh shut it, Lenny, you'll be hanging with Wolfsburg Ed.

True enough (where will you be?). However, that also involves the two others that will be with us and the fact that we'll be at the stadium several hours prior to kick-off.
I would love to learn of an organized tailgate for the game.

It's being worked on. Word on the strasse is that the folks who used to come to RB games with the RV have moved to TN. Thing is tho, they are possibly coming up to Chi-town for the US game. they usually have a decent tailgate going. they set up a nice one in Nashville for the Pre-Olys...
It'll get sorted, blue nose.

I talked with 4Winds the other day and she will definitely be coming up to Chicago for the USA game with the RV.
She mentioned she misses the lot of us and looks forward to catching up, a solid tailgate and of course the game.
Did a nice job with the setup in Nashville and I expect it will be the same this time around.
I'll help coordinate more with 4Winds as we get closer to the game. In addition, I'll let you know what the plans are prior to the stadium. I got you and the other late arrivals #'s, so no need to sweat this one out.

No sweat at all. We are about two weeks out. I'm sure things will be situated more once the date is upon us.
Besides, you are all over this. I have no concern.

Continuing this discussion, what are the plans for the pregame spot?
I assume The Globe will be the spot for the pregame/pre-tailgate spot. What time will things get going at The Globe?
I figure people will want at least 2 hours at the stadium for tailgating purposes.
Can someone familiar with Toyota Park shed some light regarding parking at that facility? Perhaps, we should setup a parking lot where people should meet up.
Thoughts?

From what I've heard, Globe is hopping, and especially so with the USMNT in town. Make sure to call/email ahead to reserve a seat on their "School Bus," though. It/They leave 2 hrs. before kickoff.

I thought the Globe was pretty much on the other side of Chicagoland from TP? Is that going to work? What about post game?

I think we're good on transport. A bunch of us are staying in Chicago for almost a week, so we went ahead and rented a vee-hickle.

The Globe is a great spot and the owner is a great guy. He is Scottish.
There are several very good bars and restaurants very close to The Globe.
The Globe fan bus usually serves beer so the drive to Toyota Park isn't too bad.
Toyota Park is surrounded by open parking lots and there is always plenty of tailgating. The busses and RVs generally park on the West side of the stadium.
I am not familiar with any of the bars near TP. There are none adjacent to the stadium.
Someone worried about scaring the locals around the stadium - not likely. Bridgeview is a solid blue collar neighborhood.

Yep, arriving on Saturday to catch the RBNY/Chicago game and leaving Thursday morning.
Never been to Chicago, so looking forward to it. Staying about 2 blocks from Wrigley Field.
Rep to Dalglish for the logistical information.
The plan will probably do is hit The Globe for a couple hours before heading to the tailgate at Toyota Park.
