I rank de guzman as the second best midfielder in Concacaf after the legend

He's certainly right up there. One of the midfielders that doesn't get enough credit is Shalrie Joseph of Grenada. I'd take him for my team anytime.

What has DeGuzman done in club or international football to warrant him amongst Concacaf greats?
So far nothing. He's a good player but im not going to overhype the guy like most of you and he wont get credit either until he's done something on both levels.
Karl Malone and John Stockton were voted in the top 50 NBA best players of all time but did they bring the Jazz a Championship? No they never did. They will only be remembered as two of the top 50 greatest players. You get judged by success in pro sports. learn that people.;)

hahahaha
by those standards i don't think you'd have more than 1 or 2 CONCACAF all time players considered 'great'.

Great players are players who not only took their teams to a championship title but who also made the players around them better. How else would you define "great"?

great players are those who excel at the game at different levels and for extended periods of time, making everyone around them better.
The whole thing about winning titles and all that is doesn't really apply to a great number of players because they play on national teams that don't have any chance of ever winning anything. In the end there aren't very many international competitions and they are usually won only by a handful of countries. If Messi was from Canada he might never even play a WC.
Even at the club level there are situations in which players don't ever win titles, but are still great. loyalty to clubs and that kind of thing can result in players not having very successful careers in terms of winning championships but still being great players. I'm thinking of Alan Shearer, Wanchope, Solano, as players who were great but didn't win very much.

well he was certainly a monster against real madrid and completely shut down diarra en route to depor's 2-1 victory.. goals against brazil and jamaica internationally surely show he is on form in concacaf as well

There are many players around the world many would consider great but they have to prove themselves not only in a season or two in their league but also internationally.
Hugo Sanchez, Jared Borgetti (If I spelled that right), Luis Gabelo Conejo, Ronald Gomez, Brad Friedel, Claudio Reyna, El Magico, and David Suazo are a few players that many would qualify as greats in CONCACAF for what they did in the our continental competitions, FIFA tournaments, etc.
De Guzman needs to win something besides MLS before even being considered on par with the few names I gave.

I just took a brainfart and confused him Dwane de Rosario. Stupid me...:p I should neg rep myself
Well, he did "win" the Intertoto with Deportivo but the Intertoto is not something to brag about even in CONCACAF much less Europe or South America.
The fact that he is 27 makes it hard for me to see him bring up his level of play higher with a low-midtier club of Spain. You never know, though, but it seems highly unlikely.

That's odd. I guess I don't as Gaurdado and his team mates at Deportivo did vote Julian the best player on the team this past season.

Well considering Guardado only played half the season
It was obvious he wasn't going to get the best player of the season award.
