makes me want to start a 'best league' thread, but theres not much point to these anymore.

i dont mean to be a troll... but only because i find it interesting...

Interesting that with all those great EPL and even english players, england still couldnt qualify for euro.

When you look at the nominations you have three English central defenders, three English central midfielders and then Rooney. England might have good (to varying degrees) players but they tend to be in the same two positions. It's also not helped that a succession of managers have continually tried to force them all into the same team instead of looking for much needed balance across the starting XI. Until they do then England will always be a failure.

The fact is you don't get that many Englishmen among the finalists unless England is the richest league in the world.

It's not so much a case of club form not being representative of country form. IT's that league strength is not very representative of a country's NT strength. And really, why would you expect it to be with so much global movement of players these days?

Considering it's only about the last UEFA Champions League, I'd vote for van der Sar, Vidic, Gerrard and Ronaldo.

The choices seem fairly straight forward...although Cech won the GK award for the 06/07 season despite missing a few games. You just never know with these awards judges :confused:
