I was reading the thread itled "So What Happened?" about the skirmish between some NY and DC fans and it reminded me of a book I read about a journalist that toured Europe with some hardcore hooligans from Manchester United and other teams. Extremely interesting read.
The name of the book is "Among the Thugs" by Bill Buford. Great book.

I read it over the summer, it's pretty good. Buford worked in England and went to various games with Manchester United fans, a Celtic-Rangers game, and was at Italia 90. It is more of an academic book, so it doesn't read as well as, say, Fever Pitch, but "Thugs" is worth checking out of the library.
